Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)

I just happened to talk to someone today about driving to Mt. Wilson. You have to go up Lower Big Tujunga Canyon Road to Angeles Forest Highway. However, you can't take a right and go over to Rt. 2 at Clear Creek. Instead, you have to take Angeles Forest Highway towards Palmdale and turn onto Upper ...

You guys are right! She got transferred and the trees started falling. It all happened too fast to revoke any permits.

The SGW is doomed!

Re: Vivian Creek: Closed. Falling trees!

The right hand does not appear to know what the left hand is doing.

I did Baldy on Friday having decided earlier in the week to put off a Vivian Creek hike. Evidently, "put off" for a while.

Re: Amgen Tour of California 2011

This might be just a tad exaggerated. The race might also get its first true summit finish atop Mount Baldy in Southern California. "We'll have our first legitimate mountaintop finish and we think it will be the hardest final 10 miles that we've ever done," AEG President Andrew Messi...

Maybe not as much as female fertility drugs would boost your home run production. Only we'd have to trade you to Chicago.

Baldy via Bear Flat 10-8-10

Jay Olsen hiked up the Mount Baldy Trail from the village today. It was a very nice day for the hike, but we saw almost no trace of snow on our route, although the north-facing slopes of Ontario and Cucamonga had some. You'll have to wait longer for winter.

I think it was the Aetherius Society folks. I arrived at the top of Harwood at the same time as a guy who was looking for them. They were hard to miss.

Re: Mt. Baldy (10/2/2010)

Hey blueshammer, we might have passed each other. I went up Register Ridge yesterday and hit the summit of Baldy at 12:40. I went down the Ski Hut route. Here are some pictures somewhat similar to yours. Taco, I was thinking a lot about thunder. I have no desire to become an overcooked morsel on the...

I'm mortified that the Firesign Theater album cover (yes album, as in vinyl) remeniscent of AlanK's reply is what prevented me from posting the same pictures. I'm guessing that most (many?) SGMDF members are too young to remember "How can you be in two places, etc..." FWIW, my son, who tu...

Re: Baldy Endurance Test

I was reading about a few guys who have started climbing Mountains from their "true" bases and not driving up to a trailhead. I currently leave in Claremont, about 20 miles (I’m guestimating) from the Peak of Mt. Baldy. I have a fall break from school coming up, and I want to do a “Dorm t...

Tim's picture is great, as is his description of things. The Bowl is on the other side (the one we can't see in the picture) of the ridge he labeled as the Bear Canyon Trail. I tink I see it ... so if I look to the right of the Bear Canyon Trail, I see the upper part of the baldy bowl in shade .......

Baldy via Ski Hut Trail 8-14-10

My wife Ann had never hiked up Mt. Baldy before, so I have been conspiring to fix that. She has been doing a lot of walking this summer, so it seemed like a good time to give it a try. We picked a beautiful day, with moderate temperatures, lots of sun, and great visibility. Ann made me promise that ...

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions

I stopped at the snack bar at Manker Flat after our hike today. It was closed and has what looks like an eviction notice on the door, dated sometime in June. Does anyone know what happened? It was always a pleasure to drop in on Mike!
