Re: Alder Creek to Barley Flats
Oddly enough, the road up to the Flats was open in December of 2009, the day they opened up ACH to the public. We drove from La Canada to Waterman (where it was snowing pretty decently). On the way back I noticed the gate was open to Barley Flats, so of course I drove up it. The terrain was burnt to ...

Nice TR. Epic stuff you guys do on the bike.
Not very helpful, but I thought there was a camp site in New Cuyama - Blue Sky or something like that.

Re: Alder Creek to Barley Flats
I joined a bunch of trail workers today and hiked the whole length from top to bottom. ... We honored Matt Maxon by taking his GPS device on this trip. Barley Flat is the last trail he worked before he died, and he wanted to be the first to walk it again after the Station Fire.
Thanks for the ...

That's cool to do it just on dirt roads. Reminds of when I went from Victorville to Las Vegas on just dirt roads (in a 4x4 SUV of course!).
Cool pics.

I talked to one of the investors/owners of Mt. Waterman this week. He reports that ACH is still closed (obviously) - so nothing new in that regard. But he did say that repairs to ACH at Mt. Waterman are going fast and that they "are doing a good job". The ski resort is in good condition except ...

Tuesday we drilled and installed additional eyebolts. Today they should be adding additional ropes ...

Third hand from SAR...gentleman was on outside edge of trail and stepped back to let someone pass, and stepped off the edge, hit his head on a rock which was fatal. He was just below the ropes, so they are irrelevent. He fell no more than 10' to the rock he hit his head on.

Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality
I don't remember seeing ropes on this trail
0.4 miles past First Water, there is a sharp right hand turn at a ravine. The ropes are anchored to the rocks on the uphill side of the trail. The trail is a bit narrow and ledgy (slippery when wet).
Rope on center-left side of this picture. I think ...
