My point is that speculation is useless. Not that it is wrong or right or well intended. Doesn't do anyone any good.

Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality (John McIntyre)

I went up there today, they are working this section of trail. There were also some people further up the trail doing weed and vegetation removal in advance of the run near the connector trail.

Tuesday we drilled and installed additional eyebolts. Today they should be adding additional ropes ...

Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality

Third hand from SAR...gentleman was on outside edge of trail and stepped back to let someone pass, and stepped off the edge, hit his head on a rock which was fatal. He was just below the ropes, so they are irrelevent. He fell no more than 10' to the rock he hit his head on.

Freak accident. 66 y.o ...

Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality

I don't remember seeing ropes on this trail

0.4 miles past First Water, there is a sharp right hand turn at a ravine. The ropes are anchored to the rocks on the uphill side of the trail. The trail is a bit narrow and ledgy (slippery when wet).

Rope on center-left side of this picture. I think ...

Re: Mt Wilson trail fatality

What I've heard (100% unconfirmed)...

Heart attack and subsequent fall. SAR is guarding the person until coroner can get there or until he says bring the body down to him at/near the trailhead. Location is above First Water where there are fixed ropes to help navigate the trail through a narrow ...

I didn't catch his name, an older guy with clippers. He has worked the area for a while because he told me that he had done the Hastings Ridge years ago.

Nice views from Luken's. I'm right behind you though, at a whopping 3 times!

My max is 14x each to Hastings and Jones. 8x to Baldy. Most every other peak were just 1-timers.

I don't know a damn thing about the trail from Barley Flats to Alder Creek, but it was a nice walk with great expansive views. How old is it? Is it a part of an historic route from wherever to whatever?

Re: Red Box, Barley Flats truck trail, Lawlor, Cable route

FWIW...

There's a trail that heads north out of Barley Flats that "ends" where Alder Creek crosses under Upper Big Tujunga (9-mile) Road. This is where you can continue on the Alder Creek Trail northbound, Chilao, and beyond...

The trail from Barley Flats to Alder Creek is currently being restored ...
