Re: Red Box, Barley Flats truck trail, Lawlor, Cable route
I don't know a damn thing about the trail from Barley Flats to Alder Creek, but it was a nice walk with great expansive views. How old is it? Is it a part of an historic route from wherever to whatever?

Re: Red Box, Barley Flats truck trail, Lawlor, Cable route
FWIW...
There's a trail that heads north out of Barley Flats that "ends" where Alder Creek crosses under Upper Big Tujunga (9-mile) Road. This is where you can continue on the Alder Creek Trail northbound, Chilao, and beyond...

I just saw Sierra Madre posted that the Mt. Wilson trail is now open, is it all the way to the bench or only to Orchard Camp?
I should know more tomorrow, but let me tell you what I do know...

I would interpret it as the road is open. Same as mt. Wilson trail is open.dima wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 10:03 pm The new map shows Mt Lowe rd as the border. What does that mean about Mt Lowe Rd?
Is that what you're asking?

I read on some facebook post out of Sierra Madre that the closure order has been extended. I'm too lazy to try and find real evidence of this.

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024
In general, yes. The falls are a good 10 to 15 feet higher (i.e. 10 to 15 feet of soil that used to be at the base of the falls is now gone...down to bedrock). The rest of the canyon is anywhere from 0' to less that 10' deeper for same reason.

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024
December 2, 2025. Recent November rains have scrubbed the canyon clean of almost all sand/soil/dirt. A lot of exposed bedrock. No plants , no nothing. The flow is decent over the falls and continuous in the creek. Shallow enough flow that walking in the water won't get you wet.

No. Trail crew is still doing maintenance on Bailey Cyn rail to Jones Peak and beyond. Trail is still closed because the trail leads to Forest land which is still closed due to Eaton Fire. End of year is tentative opening of Forest/trail.

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024
It's been 8 months since I was last at the waterfall. Late-winter & spring rains really cleaned the canyon out. Absolutely 0% of the trail is left intact, but right now you can just walk up the stream bed with a couple of small rock scrambles. What little vegetation there is poses no navigational ...

Does this fit the bill? 15.5L capacity and it has two rows of loops.

I've had several Cloudwalkers over the years and they've been perfect daypacks as far as I am concerned.
