Thanks. Other than Manzanita, the topo on Cedar Canyon looks good, with this spot being the "crux", so to speak.TacoDelRio wrote:I've been in parts of Coldwater, but not enough to say much. I'm 90% sure you could easily go down Cedar to Icehouse, with the primary obstacle being manzanita.

http://www.rei.com/product/671111 Does anyone own this one? I own that one, but I haven't had a chance to use it in the field. I did some trial tests at home and found it fairly easy to pump a liters worth (won't wear you out). The pump lever/hardware doesn't have the sturdiest of feels to it but w...

Great pictures. Sheep Cyn looks gnarly from that angle. I was up Thunder Mt./Telegraph Pk. a couple weeks ago and was wondering about a couple things... Have you explored Coldwater Canyon and/or Cedar Canyon (the two canyon's that start at the saddle between Thunder and Telegraph - Coldwater to the ...

Why do you ask? Think it is about the same as deer season. I've got a couple of hikes involving cross-country travel planned and I don't want to do them during hunting season. I'll stick to main trails during hunting season. I thought bear and deer seasons were similar times of year but seeing this...

Black Bear: 2008-08-17
Shot this video this morning (2008-08-17) about 7am. The bear and I mutually surprised each other, and he/she hid behind a bush about 20 feet away down the hillside. This gave me time to get my camera out which caused it to run away to the other side of the canyon before I could get video rolling. F...

I agree with this list of " rules "... * Stay on the trail. Do not cut switchbacks or take shortcuts. * Stay to the right on wider paths. * Pass on the left. * When overtaking someone, let them know you are approaching and will be passing on their left. You may hear a biker call out, "...

Mt. Baldy & Mt. Harwood: 08-10-2008
My 100th hike (since I started hiking again in December of 2004) - all in the San Gabriels - so I decided to hike up to the top of the world. Took the ski hut trail up and made it to the top just before 8:00am. 4 others already there - 3 of whom were training for Whitney. Windy as heck, but very cle...

Courgarmagic...please keep posting links to your YouTube videos. Good stuff.
BTW, today there was a news story about a dork (I'm being very nice about this) who tried to pet some mountain lion cubs and was given a 'what for' by momma lion. In Orange County.

Is it possible, when returning from Etiwanda, to contour around the north side of Cucamonga to avoid some elevation gain? My guess is it is probably not worth the effort.
