Re: Smith and 5490

Nice hike! Cool pics. Thanks. I've had the luck of watching (through binoculars) the bulldozers making firebreaks on unbelievably steep ridges (in the Verdugo's). They defy gravity while destroying everything in their path, then backing up over it and destroying it again. Looked to me that they were...

I've heard that a couple of croissants stuffed in your nostrils are just as good as one of them baklava/balaclava thingies. Buy them warm fresh from the oven.

They struggled because of Covid and an old lady backing her SUV into the store front (which closed them down for like 10 months). They went tits up in December 2022.

Re: Old Mt. Wilson Trail

Sierra Madre closed this trail until further notice due to damage sustained in the recent storms. There is a large washout that they plan to span with a bridge. There is a firebreak that goes straight up from Henninger's in the far SW corner that is a lot faster. If you take the shortcut up to Henninger's from the fire road, you will be right next to it. I'll second David's recommendation. I took that firebreak on the way down from the heliport back in 201...

Is that across from the bridge? It looks like Cactus Slot. See this thread . I took photo from about 100 yds south of the first bridge. X marks the spot where picture taken from, red line marks location of falls, red circle locates first bridge and 2nd red circle is what I couldn't see but I'd imag...

Hwy 39/Azusa Cyn closed 2023-01-15

Probably an obvious bit of info, but it is verified!!! First hand!!! Road is closed starting at Old San Gabirel Cyn Road.

There are some very high water falls running on the west side of the cyn, visible from the closure pt.

Is there a name for them?

I was too lazy to look through past posts on this forum to get a more accurate time frame. I had pictures from '08 so I assumed '07 was when it was. I don't stand by that though ;)

That section of the toll road above the bridge failed spectacularly 15 years or so ago. The gabion baskets are part of the remediation of that slide....
