Iron Mtn? The Iron Mtn? Dang, that apple didn't fall far from the tree! Very impressive. He looks super young in that photo. I don't think I tried Big Iron until maybe Jr. High (High School?). Took me a couple of times before I summited successfully too. Did see some pretty cool Big Horn Sheep back...

I saw at rei a black hydration bag. can't remember the name but it had like three letters on it. Looked real strong but it didn't have a valve or hose. Probably an MSR Dromedary http://www.msrgear.com/hydration/dromedary.asp I bought a Nalgene Cantene (that's how they spell it. lame). Kinda wish I'...

Strenuous and dangerous hike Doesn't pull any punches, does he? Still, not ultra hard core (they're not doing Baldy or doing the loop through Fish Fork). Sounds like a good guy to hike with. I'm frankly surprised to see the word "dangerous" in there. I've never seen it in any other Sierra...

Re: Mt. Waterman Trails (from Buckhorn or Three Points)

The trail from three points is interesting. It goes through some interesting rock formations. It's pretty much south facing. Mostly manzanita and buck thorn as I recall until you get closer to the junction with the Twin Peaks trail. Probably better on a non-hot day. Pretty exposed. Coming from Buckh...

Jim how do you like it for areas around here? I'm not going to China. Actually it looks like a bit of overkill for around here. The carbon based filtering will remove some pesticides and industrial pollutants, but there aren't a lot of pesticides and industrial pollutants in the mountains in Calif....

I bought a GoLite Quest last summer. Very comfortable, but a bit smaller than what you're looking for. However, their Tempest model at 90L is about what you're looking for size wise. They make, from what I've experienced, a pretty good product. I bought GoLite since they make pretty solid yet lightw...

You laugh, but that's about what Rick K drinks. And he did Baldy via San Antonio Ridge, then went down Ski hut to Manker to the little snack bar, and then went back up Baldy via ski hut and descended to Heaton via San Antonio Ridge. I bet he "cheated" and drank something at the snack bar. ...

Looks like a great hike. It's legal to go anywhere you want? I know that sounds stupid but I thought people were supposed to stay on trails cuz they mess up little plants and cause erosion. Don't blame me for going on that trail now. I doubt I would have learned of it for years. A lot of the routes...

Hiked to the top of Pacifico Mountain on Saturday via the PCT. Weather was nice with a small breeze at times. Found a large tongue of snow filling one of the gullies on the north side. What's wrong with using the http://www.rei.com/product/695265 ? I thought it filtered all that stuff you guys have been talking about. Is it just too heavy? I'm a little skeptical about any claims regarding industrial pollutants, although the carbon filtering would definitely be helpful. Better tha...

Oh, boy. Well, Miox won't work on heavy metals and pollutants. I won't pretend to be an expert on such things, but I'd think you'd be hard pressed to find something portable to deal with heavy metals and pollutants. Your best bet may be bottled water. Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun, though. I've...
