Re: Silver Moccasin Trail

Needing to sleep in actual campgrounds would break up your rhythm and make this harder, in my opinion. Chilao is a good last camp and I have done that hike all the way out in a day with a full (UL) pack. But the first day I would have a warm dinner in Little Jimmy and then continue on and bivy somew...

Re: Silver Moccasin Trail

totally doable. the stretch over baden powell will be toughest, so I would start there and end at Chantry. Configure your gear/meals so that you can walk 4 miles before breakfast and 4 miles after dinner. Have fun!

Re: Backpacking plans 9/12-9/13 - Thousand Island Lake

I was there this past winter. I think an alpine start up Banner on sunday would allow for a comfortable but long day back to the TH. If you decide to skip the peak, I would consider returning via Weber/Waugh (xc). Ive never done it but others have. Dude responding to this TR for instance... http://w...

not sure if this link will work. Its hard to tell in this picture but here we are approach Devore from upstream. in part of this pic the water appears still but if you look at the rocks, its flowing well.

Re: Devore water?

If Devore TC means the campground on the West Fork, I was there last weekend and there is plenty of clean water flowing. not mucky at all. mosquitos were active, but not particularly problematic. the trail from newcomb saddle down to Devore is in great shape, except for several short sections which ...

A few near Idywilld but I think they are all closed??? not sure. Manker Flat (San Antonio Falls and ski hut...

Re: Thunder Ridge

i have eyeballed this same route, but mostly for winter stuff. from what I saw, it appeared slightly better to drive past the turnout for icehouse, drive around the first switchback and park there. then access the start of the ridge from it's northwest face. Just seemed like it was less buckthorn on...

superb photos. I'm not likely to make a wildflower trip this year. Thanks for sharing. Learned something too. I have both a Hummingbird Sage and a Pitcher Sage at home. I never knew people sometimes reffered to Salvia Spathacea as a Pitcher Sage also. Oh, and I also have several Brittlebush at home,...

especially dig that photo of the church with the San Bernardinos in the background. Great photo. Where is this church located? Strangely, I cant make out Yucaipa Ridge in the photo. Almost like you moved the ridge out of the way so it would not block your view. :)

Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

If you hike in a few miles you can find snow here in the San Bernardinos. But I think you mean you want to drive right up to the snow. If so, I wonder if Kennedy Meadows might be a good place to call. It's the closest high elevation road I can think of.
