Ski hut via baldy bowl trail
The wife and I took a trip up to the ski hut on 05/28/15. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i825/albums/zz171/Illusivethoughts/Hiking%20Picks/SkihutGPS.jpg There is still good water flow from the stream near the ski hut for those looking to save some weight on the trip up. San Anton...

Re: Gear List -- Grand Canyon May 2015
You should be able to save weight by DL'ing the new testament-heck even the whole bible on your phone and tossing the handheld.
Additionally, in "warmer" weather you can drop the long johns, and take a warmer bag to compensate.
I am soooo jelly of your ti pot kit.

Re: Centimeter accurate GPS for your smartphone
I downloaded a GPS app for my phone, but have never really used it. Smartphone battery life is a concern. The free standing GPS uses ordinary AA batteries. I always carry an extra set. I figure that my old Garmin 12XL is accurate to 3 meters. At the start of a hike, I take a waypoint. Upon returnin...

Castle Rock, Champion Lodgepole Pine, and Bluff Lake. SBNF
Wife and I took a trip up to Big Bear to explore. We decided to climb up to Castle rock, then hike in to see the Champion Lodgepole pine, and loop around Bluff Lake. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i825/albums/zz171/Illusivethoughts/Hiking%20Picks/Castle%20Rock%20Champ%20Lodgepole...

The wife and I took a quick trip up to Echo mountain. We had planned on going up to inspiration point but the cloud layer was just below it. Instead we just relaxed at the peak and picked up trash. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i825/albums/zz171/Illusivethoughts/Hiking%20Picks/E...

Hey all. I've been a member for a while, didn't have much to report on after I moved out to Texas. The good news is I'm back in Cali and already have a few of my old fav's notched back on my belt. Decided to head back to Sturtevant falls, Spruce grove, and Camp Sturtevant. https://eispiraten.com/ima...

Short story. Moved to Texas at the end of august for work, the state park is off the brazos river in austin county west of houston about 10 min from my new home. Wanted to check it out, took the fiance out for a quick day hike. We intended to do a 6 mile loop but needed to get back to the visitor ce...

One that I'd like to see but haven't yet.
A bag to cook over an open fire that seals up, rolls up, is lighter than or as light as a ti pot, and can be used multiple times / washed just like a pot.

Pine knot to grand view point, is a really easy scenic hike with a pretty view at the end. I think it's like 6 miles r/t, on the south end of big bear lake.

Re: Mountain road-trip pics
Up the 39 to GMR to GRR to baldy village, down mountain to the 210 is a really fun drive through the san gabes.
I used to take the g/f up through there once a month. Mountain driving is expensive now adays.
How goes the healing process?

Re: The Station Fire Thread
From newcomb saddle to red box is in decent shape. From red box down to devore is in need of work. The first half mile from red box down is okay, once you crest the ridge and pass the burnt manzanita its about a foot wide and covered in fallen oak leaves till you get to the bottom of devore. Devore ...

Thats pretty neat that you got to see the city lighted below...kinda removes the isolation of being alone in otherwise pitch black dark. I wanted to get in an epic 20+ mile day hike before I leave California in the next 2 months or so and I have been wanting to head up to Baden-Powell for some time now.
