Awesome.

I wouldn't even attempt to do that without snow on the ground. You guys must hate kryptonite.

Re: REI Dividend - It's finally here!

Your dividend balance: $313.13

Considering my g/f and I spent a lot of dough gearing up last year for bp'ing and hiking its not too bad.

I dont know how the REI visa works into that since I got it at the end of last year and if it is a separate rebate or included in the dividend.

Schabarum park & Powder Canyon 03-14-11

I've done various sections of these hikes in the past, some I trail ran and some I hiked. I decided today to combine them all into one long (10.7 miles) trip. I ended up averaging 2.7mph and spent 3 hours 48 minutes hiking. Not too shabby for stopping to take photo's and two breaks to eat a cliff ba...

Idlehour trail camp via mt wilson toll road 03-11-11

Went for an overnighter up to Idlehour trail camp. We had the place to ourselves friday night and most of saturday morning. Interestingly there is no sign marking the idlehour trail from the wilson toll road. There is a sign regarding packing out of trash, and a small wooden bridge that marks the be...

Thanks guys,

Jim thanks for the huge selection :D.

The third I was referring to was Devore. While not techically in chantry flats, but we've accessed it from there.

1 -2 day 03/11/11

Kind of late notice, but the g/f and I are looking to find a place for an overnighter or 2 day trip from 03/11/11 - 03/12/11. The reason I ask is we don't yet have the neccessary gear for snow camping / hiking, and the mountains are flooded with snow. We've already camped along the west fork @ glenn...

Those pics are great. I also like the photo overlooking the various peaks, and the windblown sculpting of the snow.

Awesome.

Everytime we go to chantry flats we always see something new. Snow at that low of an elevation is a real treat.

Re: A short hike... 2-16-11

I've been up to echo twice last year. It's a great place to go and explore the ruins and read a little history. (IF you can see through the graffeti)

I also wonder what all the activity was about. Sounds like something went wrong up there.

Re: 22-mile Loop in Los Padres Nat'l Forest 2.9.11

Nice photos. Bushwhacking is one of my least favorite things to encounter hiking. Small patches are okay but anything over a few minutes and it gets old really quick.

Those are some epic stats for a dayhike.

Re: Ice House Canyon Trail

I'd suggest taking them up to timber, the distance/gain is much less than going to cucamonga, and the route should be clear of snow and ice except for the very top of the peak.

Hey Matt, There was an overnight bp trip in that area I was going to attend last year but ended up not making it. Looks like some folks do the 19 mile round trip to the Willett Hot Springs, taking the Piedra Blanca trailhead near Rose Valley Falls. Here's an article on it: http://www.examiner.com/ou...

Re: To anti shock or not?

This thread is a few months old but I wanted to chime in. I really like Black Diamonds Trail shock poles. My S.O. and my Father also like them as well. The polyurethane double shock system works well. It's doesn't give that "spongy" feeling going uphill like you may expect from a pole with...

Re: cucamonga wilderness permits?

I've always gotten one. They're super easy to get from the Baldy station. Just call the day before and they will pin it on the board for you to pick up in the morning. I've been up there at least 5 times last year and haven't been asked by a ranger for a permit, or even seen a ranger for that matter.
