I've done various sections of these hikes in the past, some I trail ran and some I hiked. I decided today to combine them all into one long (10.7 miles) trip. I ended up averaging 2.7mph and spent 3 hours 48 minutes hiking. Not too shabby for stopping to take photo's and two breaks to eat a cliff ba...
Went for an overnighter up to Idlehour trail camp. We had the place to ourselves friday night and most of saturday morning. Interestingly there is no sign marking the idlehour trail from the wilson toll road. There is a sign regarding packing out of trash, and a small wooden bridge that marks the be...
Kind of late notice, but the g/f and I are looking to find a place for an overnighter or 2 day trip from 03/11/11 - 03/12/11. The reason I ask is we don't yet have the neccessary gear for snow camping / hiking, and the mountains are flooded with snow. We've already camped along the west fork @ glenn...
Nice photos. Bushwhacking is one of my least favorite things to encounter hiking. Small patches are okay but anything over a few minutes and it gets old really quick.
I'd suggest taking them up to timber, the distance/gain is much less than going to cucamonga, and the route should be clear of snow and ice except for the very top of the peak.
Hey Matt, There was an overnight bp trip in that area I was going to attend last year but ended up not making it. Looks like some folks do the 19 mile round trip to the Willett Hot Springs, taking the Piedra Blanca trailhead near Rose Valley Falls. Here's an article on it: http://www.examiner.com/ou...
This thread is a few months old but I wanted to chime in. I really like Black Diamonds Trail shock poles. My S.O. and my Father also like them as well. The polyurethane double shock system works well. It's doesn't give that "spongy" feeling going uphill like you may expect from a pole with...
I've always gotten one. They're super easy to get from the Baldy station. Just call the day before and they will pin it on the board for you to pick up in the morning. I've been up there at least 5 times last year and haven't been asked by a ranger for a permit, or even seen a ranger for that matter.
The Hundred mile run/event last year in August 2010 from wrightwood to pasadena took the trail from newcomb pass down into chantry flats. Prior to that run the trail from chantry up to newcomb was in bad shape. Some volunteers must of gone and cleaned it up for the runners before the race because i...

My first post on the forums. I tagged along with Matt & some of his work buddies and Mark. The hike was epic. One for the record books for me at least. I have all the photo's I took socked away at everytrail here: http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=955888 The last entry in the logbo...
