Re: Hoegees/Spruce Grove Water Report?

The water has been running through both campgrounds all last year and there is plenty up there now too.

I think any mention to the creek's being seasonal is during some of the droughts and dry spells we had a few years back.

For sure. I'd like to summit baldy via the ski hut and also from bear flats, as I haven't done either route yet.

Yes indeed. He was a very nice guy to meet. Showed me some video's of a young buck carrying up two half keg's of beer to the ski hut, and the snow storm 2 weeks ago as viewed from the ski hut.

Manker flat to skihut 04-30-11

Nothing special, I bet everyone else on this site has gone up to the ski hut before. Well guess what not me! My first time and my g/f first too :D We took off around 4:00 pm and hit the ski hut around 5:45. It was great, We were generously given some hot soup, with potatoes, carrots, broccali, slice...

Timber Mtn via Icehouse Canyon 04-27-11

Went for a cool mountain day up to Timber via Icehouse canyon. I wanted to get out of the heat in the valley today and it worked out great. Hit the trail around 11:00 with temps in the low 70's at the bottom of Icehouse canyon. With all the snowmelt the stream was a raging river, the highest I've se...

Thanks for the info on the spring. How much elevation gain between Columbine Spring and the saddle? As previously stated it adds about 900' in decent / acent. The spring is at about 6600 feet. I also made an error on the direction of the spring. I tend to think of things behind me on a trail as sou...

Thanks, Hikeup. The pics are tremendously helpful! Is there water or a creek near Deer Flats? I am wondering about a future backpack for my scout troop. We saw 2 creeks/streams running when there was still 2-3' of snow on the ground. Which was March 26th. They were at points "A and "B&quo...

Glad to see it was still running / falling for your trip.

The pics from Cucamonga and Timber look great. Looks like you have a great trip.

I want to camp at Kelly's Camp and hike the 3 T's and Cucamonga Peak. Probably start from Baldy Notch and do the 3 T's first, camp, then Cucamonga Peak, then down Icehouse. I'd like to have water at Kelly's, but no snow or ice on the trail. I'm thinking mid-May? What do y'all think? Your best relia...

Islip & South Mt. Hawkins 04-19-11

We started up from crystal lake ascended the Ridge Trail up to Islip. We tried to clear some of the medium to medium large deadfall that we could off the ridge trail. It's actually in pretty decent shape. We lost the trail I think 3 times in the large flat sections about half way up. Thankfully its ...

My turn up Smith Mountain 04-16-11

The flying insects were out pretty fierce from the saddle up to the summit and on the summit. Couldn't really enjoy it being swarmed like that. It was strange that they were so severe at the saddle / summit and non existant before it. Thankfully we found a nice big flat rock on the east slope about ...
