Re: Elmer Smith Bridge (Arroyo Seco / Gabrieleno Trail)

Hike Up this is in what I call the Lower Arroyo ~ Elmer is roughly 2.25 miles north of Devil's Gate Dam. Start at Devil's Gate, through Hahamongna wash, cross JPL parking lot, up into the Arroyo. A friendly stroll or a nice little trail run up the Gab Trail. Washed out bridge (left of trail) just be...

Elmer Smith Bridge (Arroyo Seco / Gabrieleno Trail)

A teammate on my running team recently cleaned up the graffiti on the sign on the bridge. A little background on ol' Elmer: I've run up to that bridge many times and wondered, "who was this Elmer Smith/" In 2005 I ventured to the Pasadena Historical Society and found one article: Elmer Smi...

Echo Mt Brush clearing - NICE, but a concern...

Was on Echo last week and noticed someone really put in a lot of work clearing away brush from the main foundation and surrounding area. Very interesting to see more of the exposed history. I noticed that the the reservoir was used to dump the brush. A lot of dry chaparral in that thing. It concerns...

Thanks Blueshammer.

I'll have to get further back there.

First falls weren't too sketchy. My guess is I didn't make it to Adam's Falls. Gotta go back.

Happy Trails,

Adam's Falls - East Fork Big Santa Anita 1-20-14

Been wanting to check out the East Fork of Big Santa Anita for at least a year now and finally took the opportunity to do that with friends. Being a holiday Chantry was a zoo and the Gabrieleno Trail was a freeway. Once we branched off into the East Fork all other humans vanished. The directions giv...

Re: Uh oh! Hip trouble??

I'm a volunteer running coach (half marathon, full, ultra). Here are a few places I recommend to the adult athletes I work with: CASA COLINA (Free Injury Consult) I've been to Casa Colina (Sunday clinic) to accompany a friend who was dealing with a foot issue. I was impressed with the facility and p...

Re: First Outing of the New Year

Did RazorBack in Eaton loaded off of Cooks Champagne at 11:50PM on 12/31. Went with a couple of friends. No gear other than the flip flops on our feet. It was awesome! We made it up to the 15th pool! Seriously - Started the New Year off with a run with 40+ other people along the Rose parade Route. W...

Re: Bailey Canyon Question

Leary of having newbies hop barbed wire at Bailey (night) I took the small group to Eaton Falls. I haven't bothered to go there in a very long time (Probably a decade) because of all the trash. As you all know, it is still filthy. It's very sad. Saw a plastic bag in a tree, dirty diaper rolled up by...

Re: Bailey Canyon Question

Just an update - Did some recon yesterday. Couldn't find a good way out for a group should the gate be closed when we return. Not up for having folks hop a fence and hurt themself. Think I'll find another location. Taken this group to Echo and First Water before. Want to try something different and ...

Bailey Canyon Question

looking to take a small group of newbies from Bailey trail head to the cabin remains. Starting at 6:30PM weekday evening. Parking suggestions? Do they close the gates at a certain time? Don't want folks locked in or parking tickets. Thanks!

We need more green!

A somewhat consistent soak.

Hell, I'd put up with good enough conditions for East Fork Santa Anita to grow ganja gain. Rain dance!

Dark Side of the San Gabes / ANF - old Outdoor Mag article

Some bedtime reading:- "Their connection to the land, though, seems to leave the LEOs haunted by the horror that accompanies the desecration of a serene landscape with mangled and bloody human remains."

Interesting read.
