Re: Villager and Rabbit Peaks
in one of your photos I noticed it said the peak is closed except for the months between October and December. Is it a water access thing or a cultural thing?

A short hike... 2-16-11
I read a quote by Bill Bowerman (the founder of Nike) that goes like this: There is no such thing as bad weather, just soft people. So on that note I got out for a few hours this afternoon, I figured the rainy weather would scare off the softies :D I had never been up to Echo Mountain, mainly becaus...

30% Discount code for Katadyn or Optimus Stoves
I recently sent in my Optimus Stove due to the recall and I got an email today saying that the warranty work was completed and my stove was on its way back to me. Due to the inconvenience they offered me a 30% discount on my next Katadyn or Optimus purchase. I already have 2 stoves and a brand new w...

Re: Adventure filled weekend!
Here is the screenshot of my GPS App that shows my route (the rest-stop waypoint was taken on the way to Ontario Peak) My route down started just west-southwest of the rest-stop. Here is a Google Terrain which shows the topography a bit better. I saw the beer opener nailed to the tree, on top of Ont...

Adventure filled weekend!
What an amazing weekend it was, even though it was a bit to sunny for a February weekend. I am becoming a bit concerned that there might not be any more big storms this winter, which would be a real shame. My long weekend started on Friday, with a hike near Echo Mountain. During the week my wife and...

Outstanding adventure & TR! Would you say that an ice axe or crampons would be necessary at the elevation? Or is the snow pretty patchy at around 8,000 feet? Glad you made it down safe, sounded like quite the epic!

Sounds like a fun trip! I'll have to check that canyon out someday! Oh and I got that Meetup invite too, I think it got posted on Southern California Outdoor Adventures FB page, when I saw how many people RSVP'd I held off. Last time I went on a large group trip with people I didn't know my buddy an...

What a fun trip, I grew up in Forest Falls my whole life so those mountains are my backyard. It was fun to see your photos and recognize my old haunts. I should move back there... Re: 1-22-2011 Ontario Peak Area
@ Taco - when you head up, let me know I'll tag along and help. There is a very faint trail, it kind of switches sides of the canyon. When it disappears check the other side. However the trail is indeed thrashed so a bit of work would help. Not sure how long it would last though... Maybe after a bit...

Winter Ascent Mt. Baldy Monday January 24th, 2011
I would like to summit Mt Baldy on Monday January 24th. An early start is fine with me. I have summited Bear Creek Spire, Lone Pine Peak, Mt San Gorgonio and Mt San Bernardino so I am somewhat experienced with back-country travel, alpine climbing and of course rock climbing. I, however, do not have ...

Alright figured out how to transfer waypoints and tracks from my motion X GPS app on my iPhone. So Middle Muir is south of Caltech Canyon then... ? A...

Re: 1-15-11 Trip Report: Idlehour
Tonny's Mexican Restaurant is great, I go to that place all the time (it helps that it's less than a block from my pad too). The campground is right on the river, it is kind of a small campground maybe 3 sites and no fires I'd be psyched to head back up there again. Hit me up if you plan on going......

1-15-11 Trip Report: Idlehour
AW's comments on my last trip report, kept me up at nights my imagination running wild with visions of bomber untouched rock faces stretching into the sky. So the first chance I got I set off to recon the lower reaches of the "Mt Wilson bowl" via Idlehour and upper Eaton Canyon. I got a la...

After hunting around a bit I realized my price, for the NF Skareb backpack, is not as competitive as I thought. I am dropping it to $135 (cheapest I've found so far is eBay @ $159).

Making room in the closet for some new gear :)
Well I need to clean out some of my extra gear to make way for some new additions. First off, I am selling 17 carabiners. I recently bought some ultra light carabiners as I do a lot of Alpine and Rope soloing and I do not like to carry extra unnecessary weight. None of these carabiners have been dro...

Re: Big dry waterfall in SGC
To get to this waterfall (the one below Morris Reservoir) I think you'd have to access it via Garcia Trail to Azusa Peak that starts next to the Fire Station on Sierra Madre Ave... or maybe even the Glendora Ridge Mtnwy. Anyone want to do it? I'd be down...
