Re: ADVANCED: 10 Peaks Along Ray's Ridge Challenge!!!

Are you returning to the VC or walking out to s22? PK5386 is known as San Ysidro East. There are 11 peaks in that area on the San Diego Peaks list, 5386 and Ysidro BM are 2 of them. There is a map of the peaks at the bottom of the page.

Re: Cucamonga Canyon

It looks like 4 pads have been graded on top of PK 3742. On the USFS 7.5' quad, section 16 appears to be outside of the national forest boundary. I am not sure how you find out who owns the land, but if its private property, there probably nothing you can do. The home owners on Skyline Drive have si...

Ron, Cory and I did something similar to what you have in mind last March. Your plan seems possible with 3 days depending on conditions. Here is the trip report from last year, there is a map of our route if you follow the link to more photos: www.sangabrielmnts.myfreeforum.org/sutr ... ght=#33173

Re: Anza Borrego

The visitor center and Borrego Palm Canyon would be a good place to go the first day. Talk to the rangers at the VC, they can give you good info about the park and what to see. The Tom Harrison San Diego Backcountry Map covers the park and would be a good thing to bring along. Fonts Point is a good ...

I got the Lowa Cristallo X-Pro a few years ago. They are holding up very well and been more than enough for the local mountains and early spring in the sierra. The Mountain Expert looks very similar to the Cristallo, maybe it replaced it?

Hmmmm, Doesn't say how it died. I wonder if it was shot, or snagged in some kind of trap? I dont see where it says the collar was stolen. I wonder why someone would kill it and take the collar?

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)

I went as far as the parking area for Buck Point last Friday. The road was in good shape and not too over grown. The routes to Buck Point and San Sevaine are very overgrown. I was wearing jeans and my legs were still cut up from the buckthorn.

Re: looking for tent stakes

I have some of both (not MSR but those styles) The ground hog type work better in softer soil, the other seem to work better in rockier or harder areas. The needle type will bend if hammering them in with a rock. (at least the ones I have, not sure about the MSR) The ground hog type work OK in snow ...

Wow, still so much water in the lakes. I wonder if that tiny tarn just west of dry lake has water in it. I was over in the Butler Peak area on Sunday and could see the rain coming in over the San Gorgonio Wilderness, it looked dark!

I agree the drive is rather long for just Wild View and Pine Mtn Ridge. I added on Wright Mtn and Gobblers Knob to make a day of it. There are a lot of great destinations from that area.

Mammoth Rock, Crystal Crag and Mt. Abbot

I was in the Mammoth area this past week for a family vacation and I managed to hike a few peaks while there. My wife's family had reserved a few cabins at the Crystal Crag Lodge on Lake Mary, so we were in an excellent location with lots of great hiking opportunity's. On Sunday the afternoon thunde...

Good job! I was over in the white mountains saturday afternoon and experianced the most intense thunder storm i have seen. I am glad i was in my car when it hit but i was thinking of all the people that were out on the trail in the storm. Good call on the early start.

Go to REI.com and order every boot you want to try in your size. Have them shipped to your nearest store (free) When they are delivered go in and try them all on and decide what you like best, then return all the others.

Not sure what that device is but I saw one behind the maintenance shed at Dawson Saddle and another near Wright Mountain. Both appeared to be unmaintained. Rain/snow gauge seems like a good guess.
