Thanks Matt. Cutting that tree would have cost the Forest Service about a million stimulus dollars.mattmaxon wrote: I was determined to take out that tree on the trail around 7600ft and hauled a chainsaw up there.
Made quick work of the tree and restored the trail to it's original route

I think thats a coastal whiptail. I have seen them mountain biking and they move like snakes when they run.

Great pictures Tim. I have done that same loop before. That trail down from dollar saddle is a beautiful area. Getting to San Bernardino Peak from Momyer is a tough hike. I would like to try the 9 peaks loop reversed some day and come down that way.

Take that PDF Max posted to Staples or Kinkos and have them print it in a large format. Most of them can print up to 3'x5'.

Did you guys burn a whole one on the way to the falls? That might explain the mistaken llamas?"what the f is a llama doing in the Cucamonga Wilderness?" i ask myself.
"what the f are two llamas doing here?"

Re: Chaney Trail bobcat - live!
I had a similar experience in Forest Falls a few years ago. The cat walked slowly across the road right in front of my truck. I got out and it just stood off to the side of the road and stared at me, then casually walked off. It seemed like something was wrong with it. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_yGbBedEc...

Re: Baden-Powell May 6, 2009
I answered my own questions today. :D We hit Baden-Powell, Burnham and Throop, out and back from Vincent gap. There is still snow above about 8'500. Easily do able with out crampons or axe today. It is still covering enough of the trail to be annoying, though it made for a few good glissades on the ...

I enjoy that area. I do a loop on the other side off the freeway that is similar in distance. Its a perfect area to get some miles in a short time. I find that the terrain in that area doesn't do much for me as far as training goes, unless I really push my self to keep a face pace. Its so much flatt...

Re: Cougar and Dog: the real story.
I happened to catch a live interview with the dogs owner several hours after it happened. He was still visibly shaken from the event and said it all happened in a matter of seconds. At that point he was saying the lion charged and the dog saved his life. I imagine after he calmed down, and the autho...

Phew! We cannot do Lone Pine to Visalia rental b/c there are no helpful rental offices in LP. I know people that have got dropped off in Yosemite or Sequoia, then rented a one way UHaul in Lone Pine (at GARDNERS TRUE VALUE) and drove it home. (dropped it off at the Uhaul closest to their house).

Ortega Highway to 91 freeway over the Santa Ana's I have been thinking about doing a similar hike. Starting near Los Pinos Peak on Main Divide Road and hitting Los Pinos, Trabuco, Santiago, Modjeska, Bald, Bedford, Pleasants and Sierra. I figure its about 30 miles if I follow the road. http://maps....
