Uh, $$? If it costs them more to smuggle it than they make selling it - they'll stop. Uhhh, prices must be allowed to drop enough to undercut the prices the cartels sell for. That will not happen once all the fees and taxes associated with permits and licenses are factored into the legal market pri...

if government lards up the consumer price with too many taxes Does anyone really think they wont lard up the price with taxes? Why give those clowns in Sacramento another source of revenue to waste. Even if you make pot legal in California, the Mexican Cartels aren't going to give up smuggling and killing and get jobs at Walmart. There will still be millions of dollars to be made. People sitting around smoking pot and watching Scooby Doo reruns isn't the problem. Its the 1000's of people being ...

I did a quick hike up Sunset peak yesterday around 4pm. I was on top when a cell came over Ontario Peak then moved west. Just light rain, but there was lightning and thunder. Needless to say, I did some running on the way down. :D More pictures here. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_yGbBedEcKn0/TKPvSeLWpzI/AAA...

Good job guys! It seems there is no way of hiking that peak without a scree slogging extravaganza. I can't decide which scree slope sucks more, the south face slope or the slope above Clyde Meadow.

I have slept in my truck there a few times. Just keep a low profile and put your food in a bear locker by the trailhead. There is also a backpackers camp by the trailhead, but it is usually full of mega size walmart tents and crying children.

On to the facilities: when we arrived on Thursday they were bad (feces on the ground and walls -- how is that even possible?) -- but the next day (Friday) more large groups arrived and by noon someone had defecated on the *back* of the toilet-seat in a LARGE pile in one of the toilets close to the ...

Re: San Bernardino Divide Trail - 8.95 Peaks
I was dragging enough to have turned on towards Little Charlton, bypassing its big brother's summit by around 100 horizontal feet. For the record, it was more like 50 feet, and he didn't want to lose his NHPS membership by standing on the 2' high pile of rocks that is Charltons true summit. Also, I...
