Could you guys see the condition of HWY 2 from Islip Saddle East? Caltrans still says closed for winter. Could you see the HWY at all? Any snow still on it?

Mt. Williamson: North Fork Bairs Creek

I recently started reading various trip reports for Mt. Williamson and was trying to decide on a route to take. After reading Andy Lewicky's North Fork of Bairs Creek trip report on Sierradescents.com , I wanted to give it a try. Ron, Dagmar, John, Cory and I met at 7am Friday morning at the small p...

Awesome, that looks like fun! I just read about the break-ins at the trailhead, that sucks.
he only aspect of the climb I didn't really care for was being short-roped on summit day.
If you guys were on your own, were conditions good enough that you would have been comfortable with out a rope?

San Gorgonio 9 Peak Traverse

Ron and I discussed doing the San Gorgonio 9 Peak traverse in winter several times over the past year. After considering various options for where to start and end, we decided starting at the South Fork and ending in Angelus Oaks would be the best way to complete the traverse. After much discussion ...

Re: Flood on trailcam

I see, your picture of the creek and water fall give a good idea of the area. I thought the camera had shifted up slightly toward the end of the storms. I put my mouse cursor on that branch as the video played and it stayed on the branch until after the storm then it was above the branch. Maybe the ...

thanks Jim! I also use the colman 1 gal can. Never tried the MSR stuff. Pouring from a new, full can of Coleman fuel used to be no fun at all (spill city, yuck). With the spout, no problem. What do you mean no fun? I like lighting the pool of gas on the middle of the garage floor after I am done fil...

Did the camera move at all? In the original dry creek bed, you cant see the black rocks with the white bands in the back ground. It looks like the only thing that stays the same is the branch on the lower right.

Hey Jim, does white gas ever go stale, or go bad? I have had the same 1 gal can for 2 years now. Seems like it still works fine, but am I loosing anything by using old fuel in a whisperlite????

Olancha Peak is a more enjoyable as a backpack trip in the late spring/ early summer. There is an old wrangler camp at 9200' near the north end of summit meadow. Treat your water, there are cow paddies all over.

Simonov has some good points. It think some people take it too far and are uncomfortable and could be in big trouble in a major emergency. I think it makes a bigger difference when you are going for several days or weeks rather than on a day hike or one night backpacking trip. One of the biggest thi...
