Re: Entire ANF temporarily closed
No, I don't think it's warranted. It's government overreach. On top of that, it's overreach mandated by people who don't know a damn thing about nature.
Sell the peons a 'reasonable' package, and then extend it over and over again. Tighten the noose. The 'managerial class' of govt gets more power ...

I'm down to try. I would likely ride up Sunset Peak motorway (or whatever its called) from San Dimas and bushwhack in from the most logical point.

Right on. Was that the day with the huge avalanche caught on video?
I played hide and seek with the DWA guys once near the bottom. We made it up onto the isthmus before they saw us.

20240901 White Mtn Peak from Bishop
A few years back, Dima and I rode up to the top of White Mtn Peak from Grandview campground above 8,000ft. Clearly, the pure way to do it would be to ride from the lowest realistic point, that being either Big Pine (a lot of pavement), or Bishop (nearly all dirt). I took my gravel bike last time ...

Last I saw they said the LAC but not the SBCO sectors were open. Bizarre indeed but typical.

Good question. I am planning on approaching by riding up 39 to the Smith Mtn trailhead, riding up that, then descending into the canyon and so on. Would be an overnight.

Photo Request: Twin Peaks Area
Looking for photos of the north side of the ridge running E-W just south of Twin Peaks. There's a ridge of exposed granite running up its north side. I don't have photos of it anymore. Anyone got any? Anyone been to the summit of Twin Peaks recently and taken photos looking south?

Re: 20120304 Schvaterfall Cyn First Descent - 300ft'er!!!!
Thanks, maybe I'll save if for a day I really feel like suffering or something. This looked promising on google maps ([latlon=34.27474894994771,-117.80825810460604]) and this ([latlon=34.274390605735995,-117.81425576156533]), which is where I think you went down. I remember seeing a bunch of water ...

Maybe. I think the bushwhacking at the bottom of the canyon was really bad. I don't think it would be worth it at all.

Thanks for posting this up, Dima. Sorry about the dirt in the eye, didn't know it was from my vertical gardening!
I would say the thing I lead was 5.easy, and the other stuff was 5.8+. I don't like grading stuff much anymore cause everyone argues over it and it ruins it for me so I just make it ...
