Re: Sleeping bags...

How big do you get the thing down to?

I have a BD 50L pack and I traditionally use the sleeping bag as a buffer at the bottom, to keep heavy stuff up high. It doens't need to be too small. 15 inches across, 7 tall maybe? (really round figures)

Re: Sleeping bags...

I think I might actually prefer a half-length zipper. I take it it's kidna just more of a pain to clean then? BTW, REI has the Polar Pod 0F on sale for $70 something bucks form the 5th to the 14th. Might go look at it. I don't mind it being a tad heavier per se, just hasta compact down to something ...

Re: "new posts" icon does not appear

I've had the same problem on a few boards using this software/system. I think it has to do with pages being refreshed more than once or some junk like that, makes it disappear.

I dunno, I wish I knew why.

Re: Possible Winter Climbing Routes

I take it you took the west ridge?

I'd head out there more often if R39-SR2 was open. :( I almost always stick to the eastern San Gabriels and the Iron Mountain area during winter, since it's close.

Very cool, thanks for posting that! Still have not been to that mine.

I've only been up above the first waterfall off the road. I always wonder what it would take for that thing to freeze solid...

Re: SG Canyoneering Sept

Have you tried San Antonio Canyon? Looks like a pretty easy one with a bunch of smaller rappels.

It is unfortunate that there are pot farms here in the San Gabriels. I had a run-in with some folks who didn't quite belong. A story for another day. 8)

I'm glad to see that there isn't any moderating to be done in this thread! Everyone is right on topic, as you can see.

Anyway, cool stuff Rick. As always! Mike's pages on SP are great!

Hell yeah, I love Twin Peaks. Never been there in winter before, looking forward to a possible ascent from Bear Creek in the winter. Turn up the difficulty a few notches.

This site has excellent videos.

Mostly revolving around ice climbing, etc, as the folks there are from Banff.

The winter before that one was a bust as well... hopefully that means we get hit hard this winter! I've done several rain/snow dances on various summits this year.

Re: Cloudburst Canyon

I've got a good selection of slings/runners, and I forgot that I had a rappell ring. Want to get to using that more, since I can fit it in a personal survival kit real easy. I've got a normal Metolious BRD (Belay-Rappel Device) for normal ropes, a DMM Buggette for smaller ropes, etc. I'll bring the ...

Re: Sleeping bags...

Sorry for all the questions, as I've got limited experience. Either a gigantic Army-issue mummy bag that needs it's own truck, or some crappy Chinese thing (current).

I hafta go check them out upon mine next quest to the REI land of goods.

BTW, thread vs. new section, Christina.

Anybody object with a thread in the General Discussion section for OHV/4WD versus putting in a new section (which most likely won't get attention)?

Re: Cloudburst Canyon

I'll give it a shot. I dunno what kinda "rack" I'd need... have several belay devices and a figure 8, etc etc. I imagine that's it. I've got old rope that needs to be retired ASAP, so I can't pitch in there. If this is the canyon you pointed out on the way up SR2 in the morning, then hell ...
