20240901 White Mtn Peak from Bishop

A few years back, Dima and I rode up to the top of White Mtn Peak from Grandview campground above 8,000ft. Clearly, the pure way to do it would be to ride from the lowest realistic point, that being either Big Pine (a lot of pavement), or Bishop (nearly all dirt). I took my gravel bike last time whi...

Last I saw they said the LAC but not the SBCO sectors were open. Bizarre indeed but typical.

Very cool!

I have been mapping the old logging roads to the west of Baldy North Backbone region. Been on one. Wanna go back and explore em with MTB. You in? Camp at Lupine Camp.

Good question. I am planning on approaching by riding up 39 to the Smith Mtn trailhead, riding up that, then descending into the canyon and so on. Would be an overnight.

Photo Request: Twin Peaks Area

Looking for photos of the north side of the ridge running E-W just south of Twin Peaks. There's a ridge of exposed granite running up its north side. I don't have photos of it anymore. Anyone got any? Anyone been to the summit of Twin Peaks recently and taken photos looking south? Ridge: [latlon=34....

Re: 20120304 Schvaterfall Cyn First Descent - 300ft'er!!!!

Thanks, maybe I'll save if for a day I really feel like suffering or something. This looked promising on google maps ([latlon=34.27474894994771,-117.80825810460604]) and this ([latlon=34.274390605735995,-117.81425576156533]), which is where I think you went down. I remember seeing a bunch of water ...

Maybe. I think the bushwhacking at the bottom of the canyon was really bad. I don't think it would be worth it at all.

Re: Some crag in the middle of nowhere on the side of Hawkins ridge

Thanks for posting this up, Dima. Sorry about the dirt in the eye, didn't know it was from my vertical gardening! I would say the thing I lead was 5.easy, and the other stuff was 5.8+. I don't like grading stuff much anymore cause everyone argues over it and it ruins it for me so I just make it gene...

My tyvek ground sheet is quiet. It took some time to quiet down. It's got holes in it cause it's old now. Anyway, nah, fuck a cardboard tent. What about shelter halves? Those things suck ass as well.

I've been using various Pearl Izumi X-Alp models for a while now and really like em. I do not like how they keep discontinuing them! I would now like one like their grey mesh one from a few years back, I think it's called the Drift or something. Something similar to that with more room for a wide fo...

I am with Sean's assessment. I don't think recommended speeds are legal limit, but again it is up to the issuing officer's judgement, so if you see fuzz on your butt then be cautious.

Yup, I decided to bail at Morro Bay and take the train home from SLO. I wasn't really getting anything out of this. Had been thinking on it for a couple days and calmly decided to head home while I was riding down to the coast from Paso Robles. I had a good time riding with everyone and chasing 1st,...

If you'd like to watch my progress, here be a link: https://trackleaders.com/pacificexpress24 It'll be an interesting race for me as I'm using a road bike with a fair bit of go-fast stu...
