Re: Icehouse 5 peak loop Oct 27th
My buddy and I are going to do a loop in the Ice house canyon area on the 27th if anyone wants to join. The plan is ice house trailhead to sugarloaf via falling rock canyon, ontario, big horn, cucamunga, etiwanda, icehouse saddle, then back to ice house trail head. We will start at 6:30. PM me if y...

Yeah, I thought you needed to have your pic online, but you don't. Just upload it from your computer but make sure it meets the size requirements.

Re: A message from your friendly local moderator
Howdy guys! I love going into the mountains for whatever activity I wish to indulge in at any given moment, because they are beautiful, clean, and peaceful. It is difficult to find serenity and peace in Los Angeles. I'm sure we all share this feeling, and we all strive to feel at peace in the mount...

Re: Pallet, Will Thrall and surrounding Peaks - Oct 20th
I was just looking at the Map and remembered the confusion I had locating Pleasant View Ridge. I understood that the "peak" listed on the HPS website was at the location indicated "pallet" on the map. However, the Pleasant View Ridge is shown on the map comming off of Mount Willi...

I have to look a little more into it but I believe the ones I had in mind were Pallett, Willthrall and Pleasant View Ridge. Never heard of Goodykontz, I'll have to check that one out ... Re: Early Morning Mount Pacifico Hike - October 21
If you go up to Mt. Mooney, check out the Stony Ridge Observatory and/or Devil's Peak (not sure if this is its official name). They are both south of Mt. Mooney. At 5870' I'm not quite sure why Devil's Peak isn't on the HPS list - anyone know why? Perhaps because the view is even more non-existent ...

Most likely heading out to do some of these peaks from Buckhorn this Saturday. Anybody interested in joining, just let me know... When you say surrounding peaks, does that include Goodykontz? I still need to hike this one. What route are you planning? A tough one is to combine Williamson, Pallet, W...

Re: Early Morning Mount Pacifico Hike - October 21
From Alder Saddle you can make an interesting loop. Head west the dirt road from Alder Saddle as shown by the blue line on your topo, but where the blue line and the pink line (from Pinyon Flats) start to converge, you can shoot up a fairly steep gully about 0.3 mi to meet the PCT. There is an obvi...

Early Morning Mount Pacifico Hike - October 21
I am planning a very early morning hike this Sunday, I need to be back home before noon. I am thinking about hiking Mount Pacifico via a route from Alder Saddle or Pinyon Flats (PCT) on the West/Southwest side. If time permits I might climb Mount Sally and/or Mount Mooney. Anyone interested in joini...

Travis, did you get a look of that main ridge that runs down what's basically the north face of Jepson? (east side of Jepson Bowl) Does it look crappy? Thanks! Yes, I did check it out and we were talking about you at the time, here is a pic, not sure if it is the correct ridge, but any route from t...

that's funny, I had always wanted to attempt Baldy via Big Horn Ridge and replied to the other post regarding most challenging hike before I saw this one. I'd be interested in giving it a shot, or going on a scouting trip.

Re: The most challenging hike in the San Gabriels?
What about Mount Baldy via Big Horn Ridge? However you access the ridge, it looks like it would be an epic. Plus the Triplet Rocks seems like quite a challenge, especially since it involved a minimum of class 3 rock climbing, from what I saw getting half way down the ridge it looked more like class 4.

Rick: Travis tipped me off on your 17 peaks in 17 hours feat in the SG Wilderness yesterday. AMAZING. Congrats on a great hike. Sad to see all the damaged registers on the big nine. that is strange, we did not see any OHV's, hunters, beer cans or joints. Plus I didn't see any more garbage than usual (except at the parking area for old mount emma), I wonder if the hunters (since it is Hunting Season) are bringing in some of this trash? Not that I have anything against hunters, d...

Have you hiked Mount Lewis and Pinyon Ridge? These are on my list to do, trying to figure the best way to get them both with the SR2 closed between Vincent Gap and Islip Saddle. Hopefully I will not get shot by some trigger happy hunter.

Copied from Taco's mountain page for peak 5495,
"Currently (as of 20070701), Route 39 is closed off at "Valley of the Moon", at mile marker 32.12"
We were up there on Sept 14th and this was still true.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately I do not have GPS (yet) and my tom harrison doesn't help much. A TOPO would be great. What if I began the hike at mile marker 6.88, attaining Cole first, then on to the Emmas? Would route finding be easier? How does that affect the elevation gain? Leslie As yo...

Hi Travis, Thanks for the report. These peaks are also on my list and you've inspired me to get out there this weekend. I have also found that the time stamp info gets dumped sometimes, but not exactly sure why or when it happens. I will experiment a little to try to pinpoint it. Some of my tracks do not have a timestamp due to this reason, but most do.

I will,
we are hiking from Moymer and coming down Vivian creek. It keeps the car shuttle easy. We are going to exclude San Gorgonio and include Dobb's, comming down the south-west ridge of Dobbs and hooking up with the Vivan creek trail,
