Did you find the group from the sticker? If so it's cool to see that guerrilla campaign is actually working!

Re: Cecelia's Birthday Scramble
It was a fun hike, different for me because I usually just walk along trails so this was a slightly more technical journey. I spent the night on Saturday, while setting up camp I realized that I didn't have any trekking poles to support my tent- they are usually in my vehicle but I'm driving a loane...

Re: Mt Waterman for sale!
I ran across this LA Times article today, apparently it's in escrow right now. I don't see it happening, gathering about $17M from people purchasing exclusive passes. I also don't see how they plan to make snow. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2024-11-26/mt-waterman-ski-resort-sale-exclusi...

That's a lot of cutting already, I'm surprised. Considering it's no-fee and only six spaces I thought it would be mostly ignored until most everything else is cleaned up.Slowest_Hiker wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 11:33 am Happened on this video of Blue Ridge campground. Grim.

Also, anyone know whether the Earl Canyon Fire Road is a viable route to Pickens? Parking/access issues?

Interesting that the benchmark is dated 1945, I thought the USA would be so busy warring on two fronts there wouldn't be time for this extra stuff.

Love the stands of aspen.
And is there a nearer water?
That summit looks like something on the AT.

Sorry I missed it. Devil Peak, the observatory and Mt. Mooney used to be heavily forested with no views except from parts of the road connecting the three. Which fire burned all of the trees? The station fire? Pretty sure it was Station. Here's a look from the other side of your photo. DSC00239.JPG

Hillyer and a side of Devil
This weekend a few of us met up for some camping, hiking, eating and a little drinking. I met Sean on Friday at Chilao campground, arriving shortly before a fabulous sunset graced the western skies behind Josephine Peak. We sat up for a while in the spacious site, having some tequila and roasting a ...

August 26-28 2024 Since my friend and I both survived a few days together earlier in the month I wanted to get her out again to use all the gear she bought this year. Looking at Inyo permits I was surprised to find two spaces available for this area, which I've always said is the best easy hike in t...

Cloudripper ( https://ironhiker.blogspot.com/2015/08/cloudripper-and-vagabond-peak.html ) is one of my favorite names. I mean, it rips clouds. That was the first one I thought of on this topic. I've turned around twice planning to summit that via another great name, Thunder and Lightning Lake. Snow...

Re: CHANTRY FLATS
It was nice to see this area with no trash, I don't expect that to last much longer. Don't know which trail we were on, we took the dirt road down and then walked to the falls. From there we backtracked a little to the junction and walked up the left fork, which reached another junction where we tur...

Ran out of photo space.... Day 3 Since we camped on grass we both had a lot of condensation in the morning, it was worse for me since I was using the single-wall Protrail instead of the Notch. Thankfully I brought along a Swedish sponge to wipe down the tent and then we waited a long time for the su...

I'm way behind on writing about stuff, this was my trip in the middle of August. It was the second time my friend had ever been backpacking and the first with her own gear.
