Re: Eastern state high points

I grew up in UT but never made it to Kings Peak. I regret that. Did you do it as a day hike or an overnight? Borah and Kings both look like epic hikes. I did Borah and Kings back in 2009. Borah was the hardest descent of all the highpoints I've done, as it's really steep and the wind was blowing sa...

Re: Eastern state high points

I think it was the rain.... Well, in Virginia it was also the humidity. I had so much sweat it was dripping off the brim of my hat. I'm now up to 20 states. Looking at Nebraska and the Dakotas maybe in September since I am going to drive up to Seattle, I could make it a big loop. Only one of those i...

Re: Eastern state high points

Thanks! Are you sure that family wasn't stalking you? That would have freaked me out. Pretty sure..... I thought it was cool that they did this stuff together. It's kind of a gimmick to chase them but still fun to meet others that do the same things. I don't know that I would have the patience to d...

Re: Blue Ridge - Three Summits

nice enough to have a keg party up there. So when is this happening? And who's lugging the keg up there? We could try for August, if people are up for it. It'll have to be a mini keg party, though. I don't think we'd get enough people to finish off a full one. Make it an overnight and we could fini...

I can’t picture taking either of the grandkids (8 and 5) on an overnight or even a hike that far. But you both made it and now you can tell some good stories. Congrats.

Re: Eastern state high points

The second day was mostly driving, actually over the three days I put 1300 miles on the big Dodge. After spending the night at Summit Lake campground in the Monongahela National Forest, I headed out for a very long trip on a lot of two-lane roads into Kentucky. Lack of cell coverage didn't help when...

Eastern state high points

I had to be in the Baltimore area so I took advantage of a holiday prior, flying out on July 4 and renting a truck for the weekend. I camped out a few nights and managed to summit another five states which brings my total to 20. A delay at BWI kept a bunch of planes in the air too long and I was con...

Icehouse has been overly crowded for years, we’ve had a few discussions about that here.
Register Ridge is definitely the least crowded route from this side, although you do run into plenty if folks from the saddle to the top.

Re: Group hike to Muir, Inspiration and Mt. Lowe

I'll add a few more pics. It was a great day in the mountains, lots of overcast/June gloom/clouds down below, got above them on the drive to Eaton Saddle. Cecelia didn't mention the rattler that she managed to disturb, it was still buzzing 30 feet down the hillside after it took off across the trail...

Are we supposed to stop at 7-11 for some nasty snacks? You were joking right? 7-11 is not the best but for last-minute snacks, their sandwiches are good. Just remember to check the expiration dates. I asked because Sean seems to like shopping there. :) He did the video with Willy about the worst fo...

Potatoes and flowers

The Wilderness Park was closed for a few days to allow some Fire Department training, which of course drew people up to Potato Mountain on Wednesday. Despite the 90-plus forecast I was surprised to see more than a dozen cars in the parking areas, but for some reason I didn't see that many people on ...

On a weekday morning they may be about the same time, with 210-15-138-2 less frustrating.
Anyway, C is planning on a weekend so that works out.

I saw this claim posted on a couple of fb groups and I know there have been days when I have probably eaten that much. Thinking a cheeseburger, fries, beer and Gatorade at Whitney Portal followed by burger, fries and chocolate shake at Frosty Chalet in town a few hours later.

Re: MUIR PK AND INSPIRATION POINT

Going to Hwy 2 in La Canada is the same traffic (only more of it) that I would face just going to Lake Ave to ascend via Sam Merrill trail. Going via Wrightwood is opposite of the usual traffic flow.
Shouldn't you also include Markham since it's right next to Lowe?

I had the same question about water.... What were the temperatures? Seems this time of year the lower elevations would be nearing triple digits.
