I went up there a few years ago. That bump was disappointing because it seemed as if it should be the summit. At the top I could see all the way to Mt Charleston outside of Vegas.

Good day on the trails. I'm liking this adventure quest you're on, there are so many places up there I've never seen.

Baldy zen resort

Or something like that. We’ve talked a few times about access in this area, I wonder if all the millions of dollars will help to repair the parking area at Cow Canyon Saddle.

Great reading once again. Maybe you could pick up a V10 from an old E-350 and stuff it into an Audi body cheaper.

Based on Dima's pics I got excited and walked up Mystic Canyon to Peak 3397 but all I got to see was a bunch of clouds. I spent almost an hour waiting for the newly-christened daylight saving time sun to burn off the marine layer but it didn't happen.

I'm seriously impressed.

I go for PB and honey on tortillas pretty much every day when out backpacking. Easy to find those things at dollar stores too.

I've relaxed and had a meal sitting on the bench atop Jones Peak, only sat on the plentiful rocks on top of Hastings.
I don't like so many cairns around. Seriously, this one on the Monroe Truck Trail is unnecessary.

Scrolling through free movies on Crackle, tonight I saw one titled "The Sasquatch Gang". The plot looks interesting: When fantasy/sci-fi aficionado Gavin ventures into the woods, he stumbles onto some mammoth footprints and a large turd. Could this be the infamous Sasquatch or just another...

Re: What’s in your emergency kit?

Duct tape is wrapped on my poles so it's not something I have to check. I use a Leatherman Style CS, scissors are way more valuable to me than pliers. I have some tyvek in my pack for sitting, a USPS envelope works great for that. I have a compass as extra weight in the hip belt of my backpack, also...

I noticed the ocean view too, it was a great day for that!

You’ll want gaiters with the waterproof shoes, else walking through deep snow is just leaking water into the shoe.

I didn’t see any closure signs, and I stopped to read all the stuff at the map/information board. Google Maps says that it is closed.
Next time up that way I plan to turn right at the saddle and go up that higher peak, is that the route you are planning from the north?

I figure if we dig deep enough - for some folks it isn't real deep - we can find something wrong with most people throughout history. Even Abraham Lincoln wanted to move an entire race of people out of the country and I don't (yet) hear about him being a bad guy.

Another Plan B day for me, I was planning to go up and visit Mt Islip but the road was icy after the Crystal Lake turnoff and traffic was at a standstill. Since I had already made the investment of time to drive up Azusa Canyon, I retreated to the Bear Creek trailhead, happily finding only four cars...

Plan B Sunset Peak

I went out on Sunday with the intent of walking up the ridge just south of Sunset and then catching the road or fire breaks over to the TV antennae nearby. I also brought some clippers and did a little gardening, trimming lots of thorny bushes from the use trail to keep it a little more passable. Af...
