I think the peanuts would clog things up. Might be able to try it with 3 Musketeers.

Backpacking food

Saw this little gem today, it's right up my alley since I was gifted a trail name of Snickers last year on my JMT section hike. I figure for the first two days I'm only planning to bring these since I usually don't feel like eating much. Nice to know now there is some science behind it. I carry a Be...

This sounds fun. Next group hike?
Reading old stuff in quite an experience, the language is so much different. I liked this line: "The man who sees all the mountain beauties that have been described may become weary in his bones, but he will be refreshed in his soul".

Buy Darn Tough socks and you only have to do it once, guaranteed forever.
Wool is all I wear for socks and t-shirts now. And they don’t stink!

New Year day walk

New snow and a weekend/holiday meant that I was not willing to fight traffic so I drove out to Altadena and walked up to Inspiration Point. I had a glimmer of an idea to also visit Mt Lowe but I very easily talked myself out of it when the fog and cold rolled over the picnic tables. Arriving at abou...

Looking through old photos I found this on the JMT southbound, about five minutes before reaching Timberline Lake. Not much of a directional guide although I did find the correct route.

I have read that he claimed to be the most shot-at man in the Civil War as he used observation balloons to assist the Union army.

This. Occidental is hidden behind Markham. I think you're looking at the first hump along the west ridge route to Occidental.
Is that the route we took on a group hike a few years ago? Left a summit register container on Not-Ox peak?

Road work on Sunset

The day after Thanksgiving I drug some of the family out for a hike so we went up to Sunset Peak. Walked up the ridge route (two people bailed when we crossed the road and took that the rest of the way) and down the fire road. After a break on the summit waiting for the others to show up - which did...

Re: TR: Lost Coast Trail June 2021 (Warning: LONG!)

Nice report, I didn't realize that much of the trail was actually on the beach. Any other trips I have read seem to always mention being on the hillside and just skirt down to the water a few times.
Are there designated camp areas or just pitch wherever it's reasonably flat?

What if one gets locked in? Does the gate lock from both sides? Since the sign is on the outside a photo or memory of the email address would be required to get out?

I got grilled by the neighbors on Sunday evening as we were sitting out front having a cocktail. "Jeff left the house this morning at 6:45 with some woman....!" It was a fun day from the drive up to meeting a couple new people to seeing some new country. I had never been back to that side ...

Since we didn't have the group hike this weekend, Sean said something like why don't we just go - where do you want to visit..... And that's how things get started.
