Looking through old photos I found this on the JMT southbound, about five minutes before reaching Timberline Lake. Not much of a directional guide although I did find the correct route.

Nice report, I didn't realize that much of the trail was actually on the beach. Any other trips I have read seem to always mention being on the hillside and just skirt down to the water a few times.
Are there designated camp areas or just pitch wherever it's reasonably flat?

What if one gets locked in? Does the gate lock from both sides? Since the sign is on the outside a photo or memory of the email address would be required to get out?

That one has been on my radar for many years, but since my sister moved I don't get down to Tucson any more. It's definitely an AZ landmark.

On Middle Fork trail.

....and then later in the trip this hat was discovered along the trail. Not a keeper, it was left at the trailhead because we thought it might belong to the rapelling dudes.

That's a cool place, I've never heard of it. Seems like the fires have kept a lot of people away so that might be a good thing when you just want to get away.
