10.29 dawson saddle to mt hawkins in ginormous santa ana's

went for an extremely windblown, sunrise hike today - from dawson to mt hawkins. trip report is here: http://pasadenahiker.wordpress.com/2010 ... ins-windy/ i also added a new sign for the pct. the old one seemed to have perished and some hikers have struggled recently with finding the pct/throop tr...

TNF Apex Jacket - L - Black - Worn very little - $60

I'm selling my black softshell north face Apex jacket. It's a large size, has hardly been worn since I got it last Spring, was washed once, and is in pristine condition. It's fleece-lined (lightly) and water resistant, with a zip vent. Any takers? this is what it looks like: http://www.altrec.com/th...

Crest Highway (detour) loop - roadtrip 10.22.10

My parents are in town this weekend from Chicago and wanted to see mountains up close. They've never really done much hiking and have never seen mountains before... so I drove them down through Wrightwood via the 2 to Mt Wilson, up Mt Wilson, then took Big Tujunga to Angeles Forest Highway and out t...

Re: Baldy Bowl and Ski Hut Trail

Had the opposite effect on me. I was all set for a Baldy climb this weekend, but when I saw there was no snow I decided to spend the weekend fixing cars instead.
:-( i guess i'm just stoked for an extension of "not-cramp-on" season. no me gusta using crampons.

Hey Turtle-
Yeah, just as that link indicates, Jansport does still do the 8k annually. They just did it about a month ago actually.

Re: Triple Crown (2010-10-10)

turtle - wonderful post! the triple crown (or the 8,000 meter challenge, as we call it around REI) is one of my bucketlist goals. I was planning on doing it this past summer but lost all of my conditioning due to fatigue a month before race day. i am envious of your trip, great job!

Re: 10.11 - dawson saddle to baden-powell and burnham

thanks guys. i agree, it is a nice alternative to v.g. you avoid the switchbacks, save 1000' of elevation gain, add about 1.5 miles extra. plus its just a darn nice hike.

hopefully hitting up three t's or another hike out thataway soon. will be posting!

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)

Hey everyone- First time poster, but long time reader :-) I was wondering how accessible Blue Ridge Road is? I have a Honda Civic and shudder sometimes when I see the phrase "dirt road." My goal is to summit Pine Mtn and Dawson Peak. I thought it'd be cool to try it from the north (versus ...
