hike suggestion for los padres/sespe?

Hey everyone- I'm looking for a good 15-20+ mile day hike in the Sespe/Los Padres area. My only experience out there is being in Rose Valley/Piedra Blanca where I almost killed myself on that stupid slab of sandstone  Is there anything you guys would recommend that would take 12-14 hours or so?

2.7.11 - chantry to a mile past sturtevant camp

As mentioned in the thread on the Wilson Rim Trail, I hiked Chantry to a mile past Sturtevant Camp yesterday as a recovery hike from Iron (Lactic Acid Go AWAY!). I originally intended to get to Newcomb Pass but that trail is closed from Sturtevant Camp. Boo. TR is at my blog http://pasadenahiker.wor...

Re: Rim Trail (Mt Wilson)

Wow... Ironically I left Chantry to go to Newcomb Pass yesterday. Unfortunately the Gabrileno trail from Sturtevant Camp is definitely still closed. One of my friends recently ran into a ranger who actually let them travel that trail to Devore. They said its pretty sketch in parts right now.

Thanks guys - it feels good knowing I'm not the only one who thought that hike was crazy. Funny thing was my legs felt great at the summit and I could have kept going. Yay for my training coming around!

Re: 2.4.11 - iron mountain hike over 15 hours...

aren't yucca fun? NO! :D true story. i was talking to one of my coworkers about iron yesterday. he hiked it about 30 years ago and said that, on his way day, he met a lady who had slipped down one of the scree slopes. On the way down, her arm was gashed by a yucca, from the wrist to the crook of he...

Nah, no crampons needed at all. The snow was not a hindrance and was only on the flatter part of the summit area.

1.27.11 - almost halfway up Iron

I wanted to get out for a few hours today and some wonderful people on here suggested Iron. Could not have been a better suggestion (THANKS!). can someone suggest a hike for me tomorrow?

Hey everyone-
I really want to get out on a 6 hour or so solo hike tomorrow. I've done almost everything around Wilson and Pasadena and want to avoid driving more than an hour. Anyone have any good suggestions on what would be good (and actually open)?

1.19.11 - devil's punchbowl

Did the devil's punchbowl trail today (from south fork campground to the visitor center). total was about 8 miles. trail was in halfway decent shape, with some really sketch parts towards the east end of the hike, due to recent mudslides. saw probably 4 other people the whole hike. snow was hardly a...

devils punchbowl to mt williamson?

Hey, has anyone ever hiked out of the punchbowl and gone up Williamson and potentially even Will Thrall and Pallett mountains? And, if so, how was it? Would there be enough snow to need crampons? Hoping to get out thataway on Wednesday AM.
