Ah, so this must explain the piles of Eispiraten stickers in each register... I was up Etiwanda, Cucamonga, Bighorn, and Ontario yesterday, stickers in hand, but you guys beat me to it.
(I did manage to leave some on Mt Lowe and Markham on Saturday)
Great report and photos!

Re: Clouds Rest from Happy Isles, Yosemite Valley - 6/22/2011
Thanks again for the compliments, it's really tough to take a bad picture there! It really is an incredible place. Next time we're going to stay up in the high camps in the backcountry to avoid the valley crowds altogether and get into some of those higher ranges. Some more water to quench you...

Re: Clouds Rest from Happy Isles, Yosemite Valley - 6/22/2011
Thanks for the compliments, all! How is the valley handling all of the runoff? I remember back in the 90s when a pineapple express came through and caused some major flooding. The valley actually wasn't impacted all that much... Obviously the river and streams were all out of control and the meadows...

Clouds Rest from Happy Isles, Yosemite Valley - 6/22/2011
***edit: (the pictures came out much larger than I thought they would...)*** A couple weeks ago, my wife and I had a chance to slip away to Yosemite for a few days. Not particularly wanting to stand in line on a giant boulder, we decided to skip Half Dome and go for the mother of all day hike...

Yeah, those leaves don't look like Poodle Dog Bush, Obie. Plus, it would have bugged for a lot more than just half a day.

Re: What is this
Finally had the chance to drive up the newly re-opened 2 on Saturday... Couldn't believe how much of this stuff is up there! It is literally covering entire hillsides ALL throughout the burn area. In fact, it's tough to find areas that haven't been taken over by it. I was excited about how many trai...

Re: crystal lake to islip and/or windy gap this tuesday, 7am
Would love to join you guys, but work won't let me... :( I highly, highly recommend what Illusive suggested. Take the Islip Ridge Trail up. I did it last week, and while there was a little snow up near the top of Islip, it was crazy how fast it's melting. Wouldn't be surprised if you don't hit much ...

Re: Crystal Lake to Windy Gap: 16 April 2011 & Thanks SGMTB!
Great pics and report. Can't believe how much less snow there is, I was just up there a week ago.
And while it was admittedly pretty fun climbing over those trees, it's not safe for everyone who wants to head up, so mad kudos to the SGMTB for what they're doing up there.

Re: Homebrewing SGM-style
I tried my hand at it last year, put together what I hoped would be a really nice, honeyed Trippel, but something went wonky with my yeast and I ended up with a fizzy, estery disaster. I left the last large bottle in my fridge, maybe I'll crack it open soon and see if the extra bottle aging helped ...

Homebrewing SGM-style
Wasn't sure whether to just post in the existing beer thread, or start a new one specifically for home brewing, but I figured every forum needs at least two beer threads anyway.... Does anyone else here homebrew? I recently started this past February, my first two were based on existing recipes but ...

Crystal Lake to Mt Islip via Islip Ridge - 4/10/2011
Headed up Hwy 39 on Sunday to visit the newly reopened Crystal Lake area and give Islip a shot. I had actually never been up to this area and it lives up to its reputation. Despite extensive damage from the Curve Fire, it's one of the most scenic areas in the SGs. I knew going in that the Islip Ridg...

Re: Mt. Islip from Crystal Lake: 04-10-2011
I was solo and I only saw two people (man and a woman - guy had microspikes dangling off his pack) the whole day and that was about 12:15 as I was less than 1/2 a mile from finishing the hike. Ah, okay. I must have seen those two, then. Sounds like you were up there much earlier than we were. I def...

99% sure I saw you up there. We went up the other way (Islip Ridge Trail up the southwest ridge, trip report coming... it was interesting, hardly any trail whatsoever). We summited, and then headed down the Windy Gap route. Down around Little Jimmy it was rough , and we looked up on the ridge and se...

Cool, I'll let you guys know how it is when I get up there.
Illusive, your pictures are making it extremely tough to be sitting in a cubicle right now... I might need to 'catch a cold' one day this week.

Re: Crystal Lake loop in the snow 03-26-11
Not sure if it's new-thread worthy, but does anyone know the condition of the Islip Ridge Trail (called the Wawona Trail on Tom Harrison maps) heading up to Mt Islip from the lake? Obviously it's covered in snow, but once it melts, is the trail easy enough to follow? I've read it hasn't been maintai...

Help Identifying Peaks?
I took this panorama from Kenneth Hahn State Rec area a while back and went through and labeled as many peaks as I could. I'm fairly certain I've mislabeled Iron Mountain as Pine Mountain (Pine shouldn't even be visible), and I don't know what I was pointing at with the Iron Mountain label... someth...
