I'm heading up tomorrow morning, Register Ridge to Harwood, Baldy, and West, then descending the Ski Hut. I'll post conditions when I get back. Hopefully the system that rolled through earlier this week left some slippery stuff.

The key is to go when the weather is right. Anything above 80º and you'll be hating life before you're even half way there. Time it right, and it's easily one of the best treks in the SGs.

Finally got around to heading up Register Ridge. Steep, secluded, awesome. Only ran into one other guy on the ridge, and very few all day (descended Ski Hut) Conditions were chilly and dry up until around 8500' or so, and then virtually every square inch was covered in a layer of ice and it was free...

North Backbone (Pine/Dawson/Baldy) ranks way up there for me.

Iron from Heaton Flat is cool too, even if only up to the saddle. Bear and cat scat along virtually the entire route always adds a lot of....... atmosphere to the experience.

Very interested, only my complete lack of technical skills (what's a 'rope'? ) stands in my way... Eager to watch it unfold and see what you come up with, though
