If you ever get back late and the gate is already locked at the start of the toll road, you can take the Altadena Riding & Hiking (Altadena Crest) trail west until you can get out.

That's what I did, but for me, "around the locked gate" entailed a slightly tricky straddle over
a fence with barbed wire. It wasn't too difficult, but not something you look forward to after
a 2000' ascent/descent. Or did I miss an opening in the fence somewhere?

On two occasions I've come down Bailey Canyon late enough to find the Baily Canyon
Park gate locked. On both occasions I've had to use, uh, unconventional methods to exit
the park. Is there an alternate exit that doesn't involve scaling fences or climbing back to
Jones Peak?
