Can anybody tell me if the campsites up at Hoegee’s fill up this time of the year on weekends? I’ve only ever been in spring and summer months. Also, are campfires permitted there still?
My 8 year old is asking to go on a quick backpack and I need to make sure that it is a pleasant one..

Kuddos on the blog Taco! I really enjoy reading it. Keep up the good work! I also want to give you praise on maintaining this discussion board over the years. It is a great resource and still a fun read even though I shamefully admit that I do not participate as much as I should . Thanks agai...

Re: Misc. News (Archive)
What is the legal way to get into Cucamonga Canyon? From what I understand, it is either Barrett-Stoddard road (from the west) or from the top of Skyline Drive to Cucamonga Truck Trail (from the south). Is this correct? The upper portions of Cucamonga Canyon have a lot of potential. Its a bit of a b...

Mineshaft Saddle...should have been my first clue. I guess that goes to show just how steep and erosive that area is.

Great blog and trip report Hikin Jim!! You do certainly have a knack for narration. I am anxiously awaiting your next installment of the trip and of future trips. I, like you, have young kids and don't get out as much these days so it is always nice to live vicariously through other people's trip re...

Re: Water at Cedar Glen? (Icehouse Canyon area)
Uhh, anybody had a chance to get to Cedar Glen trail camp up Icehouse Canyon in the past week or so? Any chance that the spring just below the camp is still running? I have not been up there in a long time and I do not know how early in the season this one usually dries up. Thanks!

Re: East Fork to Narrows water level / conditions
Great thanks. I remember that a backpacker was swept away this time last year, however 2011 was a much wetter winter than this one was. Just making sure before I make the drive with the kiddos.

Re: East Fork to Narrows water level / conditions
Anybody know how the East Fork river is running right now? I want to take my kids up to Bridge to Nowhere, but I want to avoid treacherous water conditions. Thinking of going up next weekend.

Fossils in Death Valley
Forgive me for posting about an area outside of the San Gabes/San Berboos. A buddy and I were up in Marble Canyon, in Death Valley a couple weeks ago. I saw tons of these on a hillside in the canyon. Does anybody know what kind of fossil this is? They were so abundant on the hill. They were embedded...

Backpacking in mid October??
Any suggestions for backpacking with kids in mid-October? I would like to do Kelly’s Camp, but I am afraid it might be too cold by that time. Also thinking East Fork or Middle Fork Lytle Creek. Any input would be appreciated so that I can avoid spoiling the trip with freezing temps. Thanks!

Vicent Gap to East Fork
Ok, so I am looking to do the trip in the John Robinson book from Vincent Gap to East Fork (or reverse) in late May/early June. I believe that the book says around 16-18 miles one way with a long car shuttle. Hoping to do a 1 nighter based on time constraints. Is this feasible to comfortably do this...

Re: Kickass Singletrack
Claremont Hills and down into Marshall Canyon is fu-un. Not too much single track in the Claremont Hills proper, but Marshall Canyon or Webb Canyon have excellent single track. Highly recommended if you have not done these. Short car shuttle would be required, or you can reverse the course and ride ...

Baldy to Glendora on GMR
How long would it take to ride from Sunset Peak to the bottom of of GMR in Glendora? I know it is pretty much all downhill, and that is the idea on this one (lazy, I know). Also, any easy peaks to bag on the way down? Glendora Mountain maybe?

Was this hike down Cucamonga Canyon ever attempted by Migolito? I have long been interested in exploring this canyon. Someday when I have time perhaps.. However I would love to see a trip report if it has been done recently. Here is the only information that I found on Cucamonga Canyon. Looks like a...

Question of the Day
I have always wondered and I figure somebody on this forum must know:
Who makes sure that there are summit registers on the local peaks?
What happens to the registers (notebooks) when all of the pages are full?
Just wondering..

Re: We Need your opinions for our store
I would much rather shop at a specialty store than at big box stores for items like this. Have you considered gear rentals? I have no idea about the financial soundness of it or the liability issues, but I for one think it would be pretty cool to have a local specialty store for climbing gear sales ...

I am planning a one night trip up Middle Fork Lytle Creek in a couple weeks. Does anyone have advice on spending the night at Commanche trail camp versus push through to Kelly Camp. What about water availability in these locations?

Re: Wilderness Crest Trail (Cucamonga Peak)
The north slope of Cucamonga is pretty icy, starting at Icehouse saddle. I attempted to bag Telegraph Peak last weekend. Did not bring crampons. From what I ran into on the north side of Timber, this was a bit of a mistake, as I was flailing around trying to get solid footing on icy snow (did not he...

Re: Mt Baldy Adventure Race - BRAINSTORM!
Just a suggestion, not sure how feasible or challenging this would be: Start with a rock climb up Kimchi Ridge Then you can do a hiking section to Icehouse Saddle, and down Middle Fork Lytle Creek Canyon. Finally a rappel down the falls in the side cayon in Middle Fork Lytle Creek canyon (I think it...

Re: North Etiwanda Preserve
This is one of my new favorite runs. I've been running it once a week for the past month or so. I have a nice 4.5 mile route. I take it up to the gauging station at the base of Day Creek canyon and back. I also ran into a couple guys who had just gone up to the Etiwanda falls. Did not seem too tough...
