Re: Returning gear to REI: do you feel guilty?
For those of you that shop at REI...do you ever feel bad taking back used gear that just didn't work out? Backpack - I have an Osprey Atmos 50 which I like, but has some issues. It hurts my neck/shoulders a little because the straps are too close together, ' Burchey I have that same pack and the sa...

Stacy, I've noticed the same thing....Yes we need a store like Elevation in our area. Granted it probably isn't going to happen due to the seasonality of the gear...too bad. And I still have that gift card...guess I'll get a GPS or some other gizmo.

I love it when these stories have happy endings
Thanks for sharing it and I did enjoy the humor after the fact - I'm sure that it was a looooong night. A v. timely reminder to us all that stuff can happen and not to be so sure about following the tracks of others in the snow!!

See Elwood's post on TRs he had good pix of that slope. I had boots w/no tread and a doggie pulling on me - it was v. slippery so I turned around.... some people were going up with backpacks and tennis shoes. Guess it's all what you're comfort level is.

Re: Dec. 5th, 2010: 'Experienced' hiker missing on Baldy
I do recall passing a solo female asian hiker at the creek crossing above the ski hut as we were heading down. I've headed off the summit in the wrong direction more than once in the snow. It's easy to do  Conditions were icy above the rock garden. I hope she is found safe. edit: just read tha...

I've got a 4wd for the dirt road if someone will lend me their shotgun...will bring the ammo if I know what to get...better give me enough notice, I hear ammo sells out at Walmart the day it comes in. I have shotgun and handgun experience, just currently don't own a shotgun but was thinking about ge...

NICE!! I would've been miserable if I'd gone up Sunday because for sure I would've left crampons home and most likely would've forgot the goggles too. Time to pack my winter pack for winter adventures!

Re: IHC to Middle Fork Lytle Creek 10/3/10
Those are nice pix, thanks for posting. We were up on Pine looking that way and saw a trail on Dawson that we thought might connect over to Lytle Creek.
I know someone w/a Jeep that could handle the Middle Fork road just fine I'd like to go over there. Looks like a nice trail.

Nice photos - I'm glad it worked out for you guys, and that Zach was able to reach his goal. It's a lot different going the distance with a backpack than a daypack - but a great way to lose weight! I saw a bear out there but he didn't stop long enough to pose for a picture.

Re: Agassiz & more - Labor Day Weekend 2010
I hope Patrick got a few pix of Stacy because she and I did not hike on Saturday - we played touristas and then went to sleep early, not seeing the others till the AM. Ice covered the tables and our tents and everything else every morning. Sabrina campground is at around 9,000 ft. It was, however, v...
