Guy gets airlifted from old mt wilson trail today

Actually yesterday. My and my friend were coming down from Orchard camp aroind 2:30 and came upon a guy on the trail with a busted ankle, about 100 yards from the heliport. There were a couple people there helping him already, so we went down to the heliport to wave down the helicopter. Anyway heres...

Nah, I just scrambled down the steep, mushy hillside from the trail, about 1/2 way between first water, and orchard camp. Coming back up was fun :)
I need to invest in some climbing gear...

What kind of skull is this? Bighorn sheep? Donkey? Pig?

Found this skull a little over a mile DS of orchard camp in little santa anita. It was close to the water, so I figure it couldn't have been there too long or it would have been washed downstream last week. Or maybe that's how it got here... There were cougar tracks here, and I saw some bear scat. h...

Sierra Madre to Jones Peak

Took my first hike today since I broke my toe. The trail was nice and clear all the way, but mostly switchbacks, and little to no shade. That, coupled with my broken little pinky toe, and the fact that I forgot my water made for a slightly unpleasant hike. It was still worth it though, just felt goo...

Re: Bear Creek Trail (Smith Mountain)

Thanks for the info! found a boyscout web page with all the details. Apparently the forest service, or department of forestry ( I can't keep em' straight) blasted the trail back into shape just last month, unfortunately the gate is still closed at west fork. Can't wait till they re-open the road. Ho...

Re: Hikers allowed guns on Mt Rainier

Am I the only one who has been chased out of a canyon by a crazy, shovel wielding prospector in my time in the SGs? They are not only good for protection, but if something happens to where you get stuck in the mountains, you can use it to get food, signal for help, or kill yourself. Plenty of things...

Re: Bear Creek Trail (Smith Mountain)

It's been a 5 or 6, maybe more years since I've used that trail, and even then it was washed out in a spot, and badly overgrown most of the way down, but passable. I noticed that it was not included in my new copy of "Trails of the Angeles". Has anyone tried it recently? Is it still passab...

Re: PHOTOS - Post or link to pictures!

Took a short hike yesterday up the old Mt Wilson trail, to the orchard camp site. Took a few pics along the way. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i248/albums/gg161/oilslinger53/Hiking/pano.jpg https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i248/albums/gg161/oilslinger53/Hiking/...

Re: PHOTOS - Post or link to pictures!

Here's a couple from yesterday. Got a late start, so we didn't continue on to the narrows. From the gap where GMR meets GRR- https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i248/albums/gg161/oilslinger53/Bridgetonowherehike1-30-10009.jpg https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i248/alb...
