Re: Forest service contact for graffiti removal in Eaton Canyon

On it, Ryan. Getting several gallons of Taginator (which is supposedly an environmentally safe agent), some brushes, some rags, and some bottles for packing out the run-off. Also getting some pressure sprayers. Bummer about more graffiti and trash... :-(. If you know people who canyoneer Eaton a lot...

Re: Forest service contact for graffiti removal in Eaton Canyon

Alrighty, this event is on! We have the support of the Angeles National Forest this time, and hopefully the AAC and Access Fund will help us out again too. Here's the event page, and here's the Facebook page. RSVP on either page so I can get enough food for the (free!) BBQ at Victory Park :-)

Forest service contact for graffiti removal in Eaton Canyon

Last summer the CAC and I organized a clean-up of Eaton Canyon, which is a canyon in the San Gabriels near Pasadena. It's the first canyoneering experience for many an LA-based adventurer, and it's really kind of mind-blowing (at least to a native Angeleno like yours truly) that there could be such ...

Re: trail running..beat my record if you can

Chad Kellogg and I put up 2:24 on the Iron Mountain trail from the parking lot to the summit. Pretty sure I can drop that with a little bit of training. I think some D1 XC runner put up a faster time, no? Anyone know the time?

Re: Eaton Canyon clean-up and descent

It'd be really awesome to see you, Ryan, and others there. I'm amazed and excited to see so much interest in this clean-up: there are over thirty people coming at last count, and it's still almost a month away! Anyway, there is definitely an option for a team C. I didn't want to publicize it because...

Eaton Canyon clean-up and descent

Eaton Canyon is awesome: there is an incredible little slot canyon tucked away in the mountains behind Pasadena with a year-round stream, natural granite water slides, and critters which you--or at least I--wouldn't expect so close to LA, like neon blue salamanders and frogs. There are waterfalls ov...

Reel Rock Tour 2011, Pasadena, Wed Oct 5

Last year was awesome--we had 256 people turn out!--so we're bringing the next Reel Rock Tour to Caltech in Pasadena this autumn. The Tour is made up of 6 climbing films, covering standard rock climbing to ice climbing to slacklining and BASE. Much more than just watching some films, this event is a...

Sierra Madre Search and Rescue, Altadena Search and Rescue, and the AAC will also have booths at the event. Hope to see some of ...

Reel Rock Tour in Pasadena Feb 2

Hey guys, I hope this isn't against the spirit of these forums, but I just thought I'd mention that Caltech is debuting as a location for the Reel Rock tour this year, and if you missed the fall showings you should come by for some 'stoke!' If you've come to the Banff Festival, this is a lot like th...

Good work, Taco! I think the broad class 2 scree gully is a bit farther to the west; my friend, Aaron, took the same one you took and was also disgusted. You can literally run and skip down the scree gully, though.

Re: Eaton Canyon Trails

I read somewhere that the canyon looked the same a decade ago--maybe there's hope it will clear out in the next couple years. Also, I didn't think it was that bad compared to two years ago... all the slides go as of last week, and the really big jump is still possible.

Eaton is basically crack joy mountaineering--hands down my favorite thing to do in the San Gabes, even considering Baldy midwinter! Glad you guys had such a great time. I'm not one for jumping cliffs... but my "date" showed no hesitation whatsoever and took the plunge at the second waterfa...

Heh, Taco, I think I can find some stuff in the Off Topic forum which speaks to the contrary... 8) Let me know when you do the ridge! I'm curious about the layback and off-width pitches above the second notch, since I didn't do them. I wonder if that way is easier in winter when there is more snow? ...

Philosophical Blatherings and the San Antonio Ridge

Kedron, Bill, and I were planning an ascent of the legal route on Snow Creek for May 1, but one of our alarms didn't go off and someone showed up an hour late to the rendezvous. Since we all had stuff to do on Sunday and weren't sure how long the bushwack on the new route would take--Zach later conf...
