Re: Christmas Weekend in the San Gorgonio Wilderness

I couldn't really tell what way the wind was consistently heading...it seemed to be all over the place. I had same problem last weekend - couldn't figure out what the wind was doing. Wind eventually went 180 deg. from what it was before storm blew through. At midnite I was not in mood to adjust in ...

Re: Christmas Weekend in the San Gorgonio Wilderness

Good stuff...thanks for the pics.

The MSR tent - that's the 'Dragontail'?

The condensation vs. tight containment issue - what other tents/tarps have you tried and could you share some impressions of them?

Thanks!

Yeah, those cacti are transplanted Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea).
Yep, feels like you got a life again.

Giganteas indeed. Way cool.

Re: Xmas in Joshua Tree

Nice shots. Q: Are those cacti in front of the barber shop real? Look somewhat fake, but definately an eyecatcher. Never found a lot of good MTB area out there. Too much soft sand for me. Cyclocross bike with bombproof tires is my choice. Try riding the road from the west entrance up to Keys View f...

Xmas in Joshua Tree

Back on the road after 3.5 months of rehab. Feels great to be simply in a place I love and, enjoying the peace and quiet. A friend will be joing me in two weeks for some camping so I wanted to check out the campsite and some roads to ride/hike in Hidden Valley. I brought my bike but my leg is not up...

Holy Jim...good stories?

Any good stories here? I've had 'moments' riding up Trabuco Canyon even in dry conditions with the occassional washout puddle along the way. Bigger issue for me on a MTB is getting muscled by a 4WD that decides it can't wait for you to get through and, then charges straight in spewing a cloud of dus...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)

Been so long I couldn't remember when it opened last time. This was 'Opening Day' the last time - Nov.30, 2009. Made it to 5000' and then the black ice shut me down. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i280/albums/kk178/obie549/redbox/redbox007.jpg https://eispiraten.com/images-archiv...

Good workouts in the pool the past three days, plus some job work = I'm feeling better in the ankle and but my agility and overall leg strength is sketchy. Re: Announcing a new "Section"

One of my favorite saddles to ride/hike is Bommer Ridge Road in Laguna Beach.

That would qualify, yes?

Technically one could say it connects two high points - Signal Peak and Water Tank at the end of Boat Road.

One of the most pleasurable trails to ride/hike in Laguna Beach.

I say we go 2 more weeks and then have a race up Iron Mountain! ha! OK...if we can make this a duathalon and, add a MTB sprint from Baldy Village to the top of Lift#4. I left the boot behind today and am making it a point now to heel/toe it all the time - no more limping and no more boot.......

Good going Rick. You're moving fast - I couldn't handle the grocery cart routine until two weeks ago. The ankle issues are tough but, it is great to be at least able to ride a bike. I'm psyched about swimming now. My legs were bombed after one hour of laps yesterday. I can see more definition in the...

Re: 20101205 Baden Powell

Nice climb. How would you rate that route? How much gain and, how long (time/distance) to summit? 2600ft gain, 1.15 miles from ACH to summit according to Google Earth's built-in elevation profile feature. 40-50 degree slopes, ice to WI4 likely (that big waterfall). Route name & grade would read...

Took a bit of a setback yesterday but, I think it's not too serious. My ankle is pretty sore and I've been icing it 5-6x/day. Beats riding indoors.

Working on getting the ankle to fit in a riding shoe...still swollen a bit. The boot's gotta go.
