Re: Eagle Rest Pk 6005' w/ Antimony Peak & A Big, Bad-Ass, Butt-Kicking Hump along the way
Hey Girl Hiker, your report was the inspiration and reminded me of this great peak. The forecast called for 80 degrees which is manageable, but it got to 92 and that made it difficult. I have done the route from Emigdio Canyon and altough the climb up the ridge is very tough, it is an easier hike ov...

Re: Eagle Rest Pk 6005' w/ Antimony Peak & A Big, Bad-Ass, Butt-Kicking Hump along the way
Did this last Saturday and it was tough. Temps reached 92 degrees and that made for a difficult return with the three uphill climbs. Regardless, one of my favorite peaks. Didn't see another soul all day.

Re: Hikers Rescued 4 Days After Disappearing in Mount Baldy Area
I was in a similar situation a few years back. I hiked Hines Peak in Ventura and was planning to tag TopaTopa on the way back. Got into a full blown whiteout and somehow missed the big sign marking the turnoff and went way past. As I was running late, I looked at the map trying to figure out a short...

Most practical way to do Mt. Gleason is by mountain bike. It's fairly easy.

Nice pics and your report evokes fond memories. Bagged Sawtooth a couple of years ago as a day trip and included Mineral Peak for good measure. The whole Mineral King area is beautiful and among my favorites areas in the Sierra.

hi tejatee, I was up in the Mineral King area a couple of weeks ago climbing sawtooth peak and mineral peak. i highly recommend camping at Monarch Lakes, there is an upper and a lower lake. Beautiful area with bearboxes and many options for day hikes. Another great spot in the same general area is C...

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
I drove that road this past Saturday and it is in pretty good shape. There was a Honda civic at San sevaine so you'll be ok to that point. Continuing on to Buck Point might be a bit difficult. Beware, there were quite a few hunters out there.

Highest altitude for rattlesnakes?
I thought the altitude range for rattlers is up to 6000' or so. Well, yesterday I came across this beauty on Sugarloaf Mt. at approx. 9300'. I almost stepped on it, because it didn't rattle until I got within 3 ft or so plus I wasn't paying as much attention not expecting it up this high. How high u...

Re: Lake Isabella Area Hiking?
Sunday Peak is a nice little hike. TH to peak is about 1.5 miles with an elevation gain of 800' or so. Nice trail with easy routefinding. The entire hike is in the trees, therefore relatively cool, but there'll be flies. The view from the top is magnificient. Bohna Peak is another good option. Not a...

Saw this little beauty on a 7900 peak in the south sierra, about 4 in. tall, 2 in. diameter, placed in 2009, only 6 visitors since. Peak is not on any list, so it doesn't get much attention. There is a bit of bushwack and climbing to get to this peak. Thought it was neat. https://eispiraten.com/imag...

Re: Vincent Gap Trail (Mt. Baden-Powell)
Was up there yesterday. From 8000' there is solid snow cover, but you can manage without crampons. There is a good boot track and even if you fall you won't slide into the abyss. I also tagged Ross Mountain which is a very nice sidetrip since it does not get visited very often.

Re: 4-24-11 Baldy Bowl (Did not go well) Pics
You made the right decision and good decisionmaking is the number one skill for a solo hiker. I hike solo 99 % of the time. I am not anti-social or anything, but I enjoy the peace and quiet of being alone outdoors. That's were I find solitude. I often hike on weekdays and I don't like to wait for an...

Mojave Desert Peaks
Spring is the best time to hike the Desert Peaks with gorgeous wildflowers on full display. I first went up Black Mountain#6, the highest point of the El Paso range. This is a unique peak since it's actually a volcano with a distinct crater. Saw a gravesite of an old miner with a memorial plaque. Ac...

Re: Monrovia Peak via Clamshell Firebreak
I did this hike on 2/15/11 and added a little variation. On the return I took the .red box trail west via Spring Camp. This added a few miles and my total for the day came to 16.7 M. I really liked the ridge going up to clamshell peak. There was light rain when I went up and the smells of sage and o...

01/11/11, my first time up the Mt. Baldy bowl
Got a late start and signed the trail register at 9.30 a.m.. Snow was quite soft and I didn't mount the crampons until just below the ski hut. Met a nice gentleman at the ski hut, 70 years young, and headed up the bowl with him. He helped me with my crampons and gave me some valuable pointers. He al...

Nice report. I've gone down that ridge from Dobbs to the Vivian Creek trail, it's a nice shortcut. Quite remote, especially at this time of the year.

Good times, great views! By any chance did you run into two Asian guys (looked mid-20's) who either had a rope and harnesses, or were roped up? Cheers Hey Taco, I passed two guys around 7000 ft that fit that description. They weren't roped up, but they were wearing harnesses and had axes and helmet...
