Re: Black Diamond Sabretooth Crampons - poor fit
These are actually my Girl's boots -- we both started out with Nepal's and both had the same issue with severe heel rub -- her's was really bad, so I got her the Trango's and these new 'pons ... but I don't think this is how it should fit. These are pretty small boots (size 38 ) so maybe that's why ...

Re: Black Diamond Sabretooth Crampons - poor fit
I checked the new G12 and it looks like they are identical to BD's. I just found Petzl Charlet Vasak Leverlock and I think they'll be a better fit with Trango's: http://www.rei.com/product/780084

Black Diamond Sabretooth Crampons - poor fit
Well, I've had it with the latest and greatest "best all around" mountaineering crampon -- Black Diamond Sabretooth. Started out with their "Pro" step-in version and La Sportiva Nepal EVO -- horrible fit -- the toe is sliding side to side due to overly wide toe retainer. It's alm...

mve, yes I have the Clip version of the Sabretooths. I didn't feel any wiggling or looseness but this was my first and only time out with them so far. With the Clip, there are two upturned tabs in the front where the plastic strap rivets to and my boot wedges right into those tabs. So they felt pre...

Tim, Q RE. your Sabertooth -- I am assuming they are Clip (not PRO) since Garmont Tower's don't have a toe welt? http://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en ... sabretooth I have PRO version of Sabertooth and they are not very secure with my La Sportiva Nepal EVOs -- the toe is sliding sideways in them....

Re: 20100105 Harwood NE Face Attempt #3
MVE, what's your sock situation? I tried the following: - a single pair of heavy smartwool mountaineering socks -- heel rub ... - a pair of lightweight smartwool + mountaineering -- too much volume - a pair of mid-weight hikers -- severe heel rub ... And a combination of the above with and without ...

There's a SHITLOAD of climbable routes if you come in from the north. That's true -- I am just not ready for these ... MVE, I'd say that might work, though leaving plans with family gives an advantage: motivation. A family is very motivated to make sure you're home on time. Yes, if possible, family should be notified first. And what I had in mind would not replace it but rather make it easier to provide your trip i...

I agree that for security reasons keeping it private -- i.e. login/registration required is a must.
We could also make it such that you would be able to mark other members as your trusted buddy and only they would see your future/planned trips.

That's a good idea to post a route/plan as well as expected time of return when someone goes alone or even as a group ... I find this video extremely helpful for getting a general idea of minimalist approach to climbing alpine style: https://www.youtube.com/embed/oIkmYiwbZWg (it's Steve House about the gear Vince Anderson and him used for Nanga Parbat). To me it's about being self sufficient. As it is, I always carry a DAS parka, fleece underpants, extra fleece jacket, gloves, balaclava and cortex shell anyway but from my last overnight experience in low 30s - high 20s I know that it's not enough to stay warm overnight especially if you haven't had...
