WOW -- it's awesome out there in SJ -- love this shoot https://www.flickr.com/photos/_/4303593083/player/ ! I have to try to make it back there -- we've never been to SJ during winter time. I just hate the long drive especially on the way back. What happened to the summit sign? http://content.screen...

Re: Baldy on Thursday Jan-28-2010
I remember now -- you had a nice picnic going there right? What a small world! If conditions don't change much from yesterday, you could get up to Ski Hut using snowshoes alone (saw few people doing it yesterday) but the bowl -- I don't know ... it's very steep. Using the regular trail (up and over ...

Nice TR, mve! :D How do you like those Spantiks? Thanks. Spantiks are awesome -- no comparison to the heel chewing Nepals I traded in for them! It was toasty when it got warm but nothing unmanageable. My justification -- I am not that rich to have a boot for each mountain -- Spantik should be good ...

Re: Ski Hut - Jan 24 2010
Thanks. And in regards to the snowshoes -- we had no need for them at all -- the trail was really packed down by the time we got there, but if we had to get off of it then yes, we would need them for sure. We ended up burying the snowshoes at the beginning of the trail and picked them up on our way ...

Thanks Tim -- yes it's beautiful out there and I think any camera would have captured it. Today I mostly used Nikon D40 with the kit lens. It's a great little camera and is capable of taking great pictures as long as I don't screw it up.

Ski Hut - Jan 24 2010
I've been patiently waiting to hit Baldy all week during which some serious storms came through the LA-LA land. I had a feeling it was going to be something special in the mountains but after reading glamisking's Register Ridge on Thursday it became obvious that the amount of snow that fell in that ...

Jim,
I am so glad you didn't listen to my suggestion -- I kept kicking myself for it all morning! Glad you and your daughter had a great time! It's a wonderland out there with all the snow -- never seen anything like it here in CA!

Re: General Conditions
Hi Jim! I don't know where everyone is? Answer to your question -- you have to be at Manker at least before 9am -- since there are no chains requirement at this point I'd say you should be getting off 210 at 8-8:15 to be safe. Jim, I am sorry -- man was I wrong! It was a ZOO over there today I have...

Re: Will Rogers and Temescal Ridge Loop
Temescal Loop was practically our gym for a year and a half before we discovered Ski Hut trail. Funny thing about that trail is that when you start really early at 6:00am (by LA standards) you will most likely run into some celebrities on that trail. So far we've run into: Christian Slater http://ha...

I am more concerned about having to drag snowshoes there now, more than the drive up there ...
