Re: Spider ID?
Hi Sean, An arachnid but not exactly a spider. At first glance on small screen I saw only three legs per side, but once I enlarged the postage stamp, the ID was apparent. The body parts fused into one segment also makes these little fellers look more insectoid than the thorax-and-abdomen spydies. Th...

Good photo catch while running, tekewin. Cellphone pic, which? Looks like an immature redtailed hawk. (I have the crappiest little screen on this ancient budget laptop/2005!/ and I hope someone else with better viewing will chime in) The upper chest/throat area is pale. Few of the H&Fs have that...

Mike, mid-week dayhikers suffered the vehicle burglaries. That happened to me twice while hiking, at trailheads @ San Gorgonio. Both occurred with late returns after 10 p.m. The second was a real surprise -- not isolated, campers/activity etc. You know how that goes, though. Also, lousy target vehic...

Thanks for the TR and great pics, Elwood. That's a favorite area, though I don't get there very much anymore (drive/time is stacked unfavorably, grr). It can be pleasant to reminisce for times that came before our own, but that prism is often rose-colored glass. Cue Rod Serling et alia who have explored that theme---fondly! Personally, I appreciate the nearness of an opportunity for solitude in the wilderness (now, about those dang busloads of hik...
