Re: Guy gets airlifted from old mt wilson trail today

I was walking south on the Mt. Wilson Toll Road (towards Hastings Peak) when I saw the helicopter perched over the helipad. I was too far away to learn what was going on, so thanks for the clarification.

Re: Sam Merrill Trail (Echo Mountain)

I was there in late January and observed no closure signs on the old rail bed trail between Cape of Good Hope and Echo Mtn. There was a big trail closure sign further up the Mt. Lowe road heading northeast from the cape, however. The Middle (or is that called Upper?) Sam Merrill trail previously had...

Injuries?

Question(s): How do y'all deal with hiker-related injuries, such as sore knees and the like? For that matter, what are the most common injuries (aside from blisters and the occasional shark bite) encountered by hikers, and how would one avoid them? I ask because I was hiking a month or so ago down U...

Re: Inspiration point 1.24.2010

Was up there today too! Went up that steep ridge thing on west San Flores; up to the road; on Sunset Ridge to Inspiration Point; down Castle Canyon to Echo Mtn.; then down Lower Sam Merrill. I noticed they removed the trail closure signs on Echo Mtn. Was surprised at all that snow and ice not far fr...

Looks very nice! Will have to try it out this weekend. Hopefully the rain and wind will allow for clear views.

Looks great! What's the status on Mt. Lowe? Is it open to hikers?

Re: Old Mt. Wilson Trail

Wow, thanks for the information. I was even considering hiking it in 9 hours. I would also like to help clear the trail if possible.

Insects at Monrovia Peak

Hello, quick question. I've read that the trails to Monrovia Peak have a fair amount of bugs, though I'm not sure if that pertains to conditions in the wintertime. Can anyone confirm the bug situation there? My hope is to be chemical free for the next few months.

Echo Mountain to Inspiration Point

Hello, this is my first post, so I'll report on the ever popular Echo Mtn. --> Inspiration Point trek. I hiked it today, and the crowds were numerous from Lake to Echo Mtn. At the top, the trail to Mt. Lowe was closed. http://i47.tinypic.com/351vix1.jpg However, the trail to Inspiration Point is sti...
