What time of year were you in there? may & september How was the water situation? water in the creek and a spring at sheep camp. no water past sheep unless there's imported water at the campsites down from the top of pinos - we didn't see any on top - it's a big mound vs a pointy peak - we just...

My expert diagnosis sez there is a second fracture on the 5th Proximal Phalange 'second' fracture? could that possibly be 'spiral' fracture? Whether it's an old fracture or from this misadventure I'm sure I'll find out on Monday, it's gotta be old... Know I never went to the doc for it... it's new.

You haven't lived until you are no longer the top of the food chain. and even though the numbers of predators are low and the chance of an encounter with a predator is low, and the odds of a fatal event is very, very low, when we go out in the woods we are no longer the top of the food chain. keeps...

You know, I like horses. At least I think I do. However, I'm beginning to think that in a previous life I owned a glue factory. Horses DO NOT LIKE ME. They approach me as they would anyone. But then…THEY KNOW. another fellow went up the agua blanca last weekend. he was aware of my experience. here'...

The Pothole Trail is located on the Ojai Ranger District in the Los Padres National Forest. The trail head is about 5.5 miles past the entrance gate to the Lake Piru Recreational Area on Piru Canyon Road. During winter months there is a locked gate at 1.2 miles from the entrance gate. Re: The Pothole Trail :: LPNF :: 2.20.2010
awesome! i've wanted to do this trail for a few years, but never got around to it since the fire and ranger's telling me it wasn't open / wasn't worth it. it's definitely open and quite scenic. so, with the closed gates, is it (2.3 + 47) = 7 miles one way? Odometer readings: Entrance gate = 0.0 1st...

OK, so it's my first trip report. And just maybe I got a little carried away with the words - do ya think? But I promise to be more succinct next time. The Agua Blanca Trail can be described as one of the most scenic in the Ojai Ranger District in the Los Padres National Forest. That's the good news...

If I need water I always take it from the stream past the hut, with no ill effects. in looking at the site yesterday - 10.31.2009 - i couldn't determine if the lowest spring is in the same drainage as the ski hut outhouse. the upper spring = there is no doubt it is directly below the ski hut outhou...

The route to Hines Peak that interests me the most is via Santa Paula Canyon. The Tom Harrison map shows the Last Chance Trail going through to the ridge, but when I visited it a year or two ago the trail appeared to vanish after Jackson Hole, leading to a potentially severe bushwhack. An attempt b...

Did you taste the water at all? Was it very salty? no, i did not taste it. Bradley filled his Nalgene on the way down and did not say that it tasted "funny." he said he has filled up there many times so i assume it is not salty. btw... last time i was in the Sespe Wilderness we saw a bear...
