i settled on western mountaineering as the supplier.

i tried on a summerlite and a megalite.

i chose the megalite - roomier and more comfortable for me.

was able to get it at a 20% discount.

have not regretted the decision.

i am not fast, as my times will demonstrate. genetic testing has proven that i am built for stamina, not speed. multiple trips manker to summit - 3.5 hrs + / - w/o stops. add 30 mins + / - for stops. north rim to south rim - 12 hrs 58 mins - includes 2 hrs 19 mins stoppage time for pix, lunch, water...

my camera is attached to my front backpack strap.

this guy crossed the path uptrail just as i was rounding a switchback.

he stopped, slowly turned back and sat down. posed for about a minute and then - gone.

what they all said. i've also recently done research on the very same issue. the unaddressed issue here so far is the cost / benefit ratio. the big variable weights are pack, tent, bag and pad. you can get each of those down to a very low weight - but to do so could set you back close to $1,000.00. ...

a great day hike. 23.5 miles. 13 hrs inc. stoppage time. perfect weather - was the perfect time to go. only real heat was just above the river on the lower bright angel.
