Re: Winter is here!

My favorite winter hikes involve snow, but I'll list the classics with the family. 1. Cooper Canyon, to the falls, and up around to Snowcrest. 2. Lake Ave. to Inspiration Lookout. Echo Mtn. (always a shit load of people) 3. Sturtevant Area, little up and down loops. Others... 4. Blackstar Canyon Roa...

Re: Mt Baden-Powell, 15 Nov 2009

Does hwy 2 still close off at Vincent Gap parking lot? If it does, I was planning on riding my bike on the paved hwy from there to Dawson Saddle and where ever else it takes me. \ I will go stealth.
Nice pictures by the way, it made me want to go up there.
So which gate closes the Angeles Crest HWY?

Yes. That is my interpretation of what the LA basin will look like when we all get infected with the CraZies virus and the government has to nuke it.

Re: What peak is this?

Is this a recent picture? Are the Sierras that covered in snow yet? I imagine that there is snow on peaks but not enough to actually cover them like that. My mate lives in Tahoe and sends pictures to me of the peaks around there, and they don't have any snow on them, higher latitude at around 11,000...

Re: Newcomb Pass and Mt. Wilson

What a small world. My ma and I where in that same area all day. We went to the pass and then down to first water. Nice little 12mile loop. The weather was perfect and the foliage was turning making the entire evening magical. The burn area was a downer, but is is nice the fire didn't come close to ...

Hiking Friends Wanted...Needed!

Hey, Just asking if anybody wants to hike, and even go on some backpacking trips in local mountains. I live in Huntington Beach, and it totally sucks here. My hiking partners and brother have all moved and/or become lazy. We have done some long distance backpacking, and pretty familiar with the Gabr...

Re: Transient arrested in fire probe

Yeah, I agree with you there matt. I hate when the wrong people or things get blamed, it just digs a deeper hole. Like how they keep us out of Williamson Rock because "we" are "hiking" all over their habitat, But the real reason the yellow frogs are dying is that amphibians are t...

Re: Native Son Mine

Native Son mine is hard to find. I have been down that road twice, looking for the mine from the road, also bush whacking to the spot that it is labeled on my map. I have yet to find a trace of it. (maybe I just suck at that sort of thing) It is possible it has caved in.

people like that deserve a bite. I have seen three people on three different occasions beat down and kill rattlers just cause they are basking in the sun. next time i see something like that I'm going to be the one beating him with a stick.

That look out over the last water fall(right before you went back up) is crazy. One time I saw a search and rescue helicopter hovering right under the fall. The water was flowing off the top pools. Amazing. Tar Creek really looks like something out of the Rockies or Sierras. It is magical. Was there...

The JMT is a great trail. The two times I have done it, it had rained for 4 days total. It was super dry this year. Those are cool deer(bucks) shots over on the ridge.

I would think Acorn is open. Because those houses in the area never had to evacuate or have any troubles. You should contact the SanBern Ranger Station.
