Missing hiker on Mt. Baldy (starting Friday 8/29/2014)

Whilst hiking Mt. Baldy this morning (Saturday, August 30), I learned that a search was ongoing for a missing hiker. The hiker was last heard from at 6PM last night when he called to say he was in "treacherous" terrain. It's my understanding that SAR believed that he summited Baldy by Devi...

Re: Ontario Peak by way of Falling Fir Ridge 6-5-11

Saw your tracks starting at the first saddle, Sam! It looked like instead of the chute, you went up the boulder field/slope east of FRC and adjacent to Fir Draw, correct? We went a very short distance up Fir Draw before cutting straight up to the ridge. There is a cliff band at the bottom of the ri...

Sierra Song

I recorded a pop/rock song inspired by my stint as a climbing bum in the Sierras. The song is called The Wild Groove ("wild" as in wilderness). You can stream and download it free at http://SamPageMusic.com . https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/lh6.googleusercontent.com/--O0f7jtzHU4/TTN...

Ontario Peak, Falling Fir Ridge (6/4/2011)

With word spreading that the Gillanders Three were preparing for an assault on Falling Fir Ridge, my team decided to beat them to it. And that's what we did. Ha ha. As Dave mentioned in his post, there is a lot of loose rock that must be overcome to gain the ridge. But once on the ridge proper, ther...

It's amazing how quickly that bowl melts out.  Nice view down the still snowy north face.

Nice. Miguel climbed the route a few days after you. That view from the summit of Charlton also lured me up the same couloir last spring.

Re: 20110415 - The North West Face of Mount Baldy

OK, so one question. I'm probably confused, but why'd you guys go to Harwood-Baldy saddle ("A") en route to Fish Fork? Dawson-Baldy (B to D) ridge would block you from getting into Fish Fork ("C"), yes? We crossed Harwood/Baldy saddle in order to get to Dawson/Baldy saddle and u...

That was a memorable route in perfect conditions. Thanks to Patrick for being the driving force on this one. I wrote a blog entry which adds little to Patrick's excellent write-up and photo set. Baldy Bowl (4/3/2011)

Though the bowl is melting out, the snow climbing conditions were still excellent, at least in the early to mid-morning. The trail to the hut was mostly free of snow. It was great to finally climb with Ty and Augie, and it's always a treat to go a lilbitmo with Patrick. Trip Report https://eispirate...

That was a CLASSIC itinerary! I'm definitely going to try that sometime. If I get lazy, I might just skip the first four attempted destinations and head straight for Icehouse Canyon.
