Re: Mt. Baldy rescue: 12/23
What kind of injuries did she sustain from her fall? Were you able to break into the cabin? ...and why was it taking so long to get her off the damn mountain!? This from the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin: "The hiker reportedly suffered some broken bones, but her injuries were not life-threateni...

Mt. Baldy rescue: 12/23
A young woman was seriously injured today after falling 1000 feet down Baldy Bowl. Some members of this forum, me included, arrived shortly after the accident and helped stabilize her at the (locked!) ski hut. A big rescue ensued. When I left Manker Flats at around 7:30 PM, the helicopters had been ...

Wow, the conditions on Baldy look . . . unusual. Those are some serious objective hazards.

Sounds like a very wise decision. Glad you got out ok.

"Dark Summit" by Nick Heil
In spring 1996, over ten climbers died in a storm while climbing Mt. Everest, including the accomplished leaders of two commercial expeditions, Rob Hall and Scott Fischer. The story of that terrible season was told, not without controversy, by Jon Krakauer in his best-selling book Into Thin Air . In...

Three Cups of Tea
I finally got around to reading Three Cups of Tea and posted a review on my blog. Here is the first paragraph: In 1993, Greg Mortenson came close to reaching the highest point on K2, but opted instead to take the moral high ground, participating in a harrowing, life-threatening rescue of a fellow cl...

I'm glad you asked, simonov. A sesquipedalian is a big word. Thus, the word sesquipedalian is itself a sesquipedalian. I hope that helps.simonov wrote:"Sesquipedalian?"

Sounds like a full day. Eric must have felt awful in his hungover state. But I don't think you give him enough credit. Getting drunk and not sleeping beforehand was probably part of his careful training regime for something much bigger. ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

Having climbed on Mt. Everest with Ed Viesturs -- or more accurately, having observed Ed Viesturs for a few moments at Everest Basecamp while I panted weakly -- I felt eminently qualified to write the definitive review (or at least a review) of his new book on K2. Here it is.

Thanks for the feedback, folks.
Having just finished reading Crazy for the Storm and subsequently studied maps and satellite imagery, I think the crash occurred in the upper reaches of the drainage just west of Cherry Canyon.
