Re: Slope due N of Vivian Creek parking lot
Well, we climbed Dobbs Peak on Sunday, but avoided the shortcut slope. We left the trailhead in the dark, so could not get a good look at it. We didn't get back to the trailhead until after dark, so its feasibility will remain a mystery for the time being.

Dobbs Peak (1/31/2010)
I know that Dobbs Peak is in the rival San Bernardino Mountains, but I thought that some of you might be interested to read about the CPR route on Dobbs Peak anyway.

Re: Slope due N of Vivian Creek parking lot
are you trying to avoid using the main trail of Vivan and still come out on that same ridge that leads up to Dobbs? Yes, that is the first part of my plan. Then I will continue up "Dobbs Ridge" [or "Bumblebee Ridge" ;) ] to Dobbs Peak and beyond. I have done Dobbs Ridge from 700...

Yup, just below 1.26 on your map thingy (which is ridiculously sweet, by the way).mattmaxon wrote:http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=482074
I'm assuming you are referring to the area below where I traversed from vivian creek to big falls?

Slope due N of Vivian Creek parking lot
I posted this on the San Gorgonio board, but got no response. So I'll try here. Does anyone know how difficult it is to climb the slope due north of the Vivian Creek parking lot? Also, how might the avalanche conditions be on that slope over the next week? The slope is between Falls Creek and Vivian...

Nice report, hamik. Thanks for posting. Incidentally, I was attempting Mt. Williamson when you were there in December. I parked near your car at the Shepherd's Pass trailhead and then continued in a 4WD vehicle to the North Fork of Bairs Creek. I read your trip report somewhere. Welcome to the board!

Rockreation, Costa Mesa, Sunday 1/24?
Does anyone want to join me at the Rockreation climbing gym in Costa Mesa tomorrow (Sunday, January 24)? Though the mountains look amazing now, there is too much fresh snow to lure me up.

Mt. Moosilauke was my first 4,000-footer. I hiked it when I was about eight years old. The top 100 feet or so are above treeline and the views are fantastic. I hiked up there again last year and encountered nearly zero visibility on top. In those conditions, staying on trail can be difficult.

Hey dsaveall, the White Mountains of NH are my old stomping grounds! I hauled all my gear out there over the holidays for a winter ascent of Mt. Washington, but was rebuffed by bad weather and illness. Anyway, PM me if you want some more company on your Mt. Baldy climb. I've done seven different rou...

Wednesday's accident on Mt. Baldy
On Wednesday, ten of us had a great time climbing Mt. Baldy. On the way down, we came upon a climber who had just tumbled down the bowl. Though she was seriously injured, she is recovering. Here is my trip report.
