That would make sense. I've been staying up there off and on since the late '80s and this is the first time I've ever heard anything like it. I figured dynamite, but there were only one or two "whumps" at a time.

Wooshing/Thump audible from Buckhorn
Spend a few nights up there last week - during the day there was a muffled but very distinct thumping sound. Is there mining going on near there? Construction? Sounded like dynamite or some sort of heavy machinery.

Yeah, it's obvious Cucamonga Falls was doing just fine before big brother showed up.PackerGreg wrote: ↑Eighty-three arrests for what?? They don't say.

Damn. I had hopes of taking home "Most Serious Poster of the Year" honors this year, but after reading Greg's posts in this thread it has become apparent I have no chance.PackerGreg wrote: ↑It doesn't work on me...

Re: Wilderness Crest Trail (Cucamonga Peak)
Would like to do the climb this weekend and am just curious of the current conditions. I have snow and ice gear however the person coming with me does not. If anyone has recently climbed it and has the word on the snow conditions I would greatly appreciate it. Also Dude, tomorrow's the 10th already.

Alright, I've been lurking here long enough I figure I ought to share with the class. My real name is Greg, my username is a combination of members from my favorite rock band growing up, Alice in Chains. I'm 28 going on 40, played a ton of basketball throughout my youth and am starting to pay the pr...

Re: SR-39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road)
The end of R39 is now just a little past Crystal Lake. How far of a walk/ride is it from the new closure location to Islip Saddle via the road? (and yes, I'm too lazy to get a map out and figure it out myself) http://bit.ly/ekDkuJ About 4.5 miles - it's pretty awesome actually, if you zoom in close...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)
Ooh - un-friended from ACH! haha I don't get the idea it's a huge slide - just that there's no point sloshing through snow and getting delayed by storms, just so a few people (me!!) can hike to Mt Islip. I will just have to sneak up on it from South Fork Camp I guess! Yeah I wonder, I'll miss getti...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)
I asked about it on the ACH Facebook page. They said they're getting funding for the repair now, and work will start in the spring when the snow is gone. Still closed at Cedar Springs till it's fixed. Oh that was you! I looked there right after posting here - turns out I've been barred from...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)
As Matt mentioned, It is closed at Cedar Springs, or just before Eagles Roost. There was undermining of Hwy 2 near that location, after the storms in December. Maybe Patrick can give us some info. I saw a couple picts last month, but don't have them at my disposal. It didn't look too bad, but I'm n...

Let's not scare Patrick off. It might be nice to have reliable scoop from Caltrans on this site. Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow
Hondas for Heaven. This state could use a good flush! It might eliminate the ACH for good! Joking but... perhaps you're right. It's starting to look a little bit like 2009 was the last great year for ACH. It used to seem so permanent to me, but now I don't think it's ridiculous to wonder if the hig...

This has to be challenged. Completly absurd explanation from prosecutor. The DA must be crooked and has a history.. .or he's just begging for trouble here. Does the prosecutor work in Bell by any chance? I thought the same thing and when I read that it was the same guy who tried to hang Kobe Bryant...

Re: Is Monte Cristo even usable anymore?
AFH is probably getting less than about 20% of it's normal use right now with Hwy 2 being closed. Most commuters don't consider Big Tujunga Cyn enough of a shortcut to do it, so they are going the 14. Wait til it re-opens and then go back. This is nothing, really. Yeah I believe you. What a bummer,...

Is Monte Cristo even usable anymore?
Spent a night there just to see what it was like - I knew Angeles Forest Highway was a huge commuter route from Palmdale but I figured it'd be somewhat less used right now with the 2 closed. Wrong. Seems like this used to be quite the nice spot, has it always been such a thoroughfare? Maybe before t...

Campground status
Howdy folks,
Haven't had a chance to get up the 2 recently, I know Buckhorn is usually open until mid-november but I heard rumor it was closing early this year.
Anyone been up that way and gotten an eye-ful of the gate?

Uh, $$? If it costs them more to smuggle it than they make selling it - they'll stop. Uhhh, prices must be allowed to drop enough to undercut the prices the cartels sell for. That will not happen once all the fees and taxes associated with permits and licenses are factored into the legal market pri...

Re: pot in cow canyon
Admittedly, it is not the same as alcohol with respect to violencel, but it will have it's own unique problems. It impairs judgement (driving, or what ever requires full attentiveness) whatever. Why expose society to another layer of problems, on a gamble? Impairing someone's ability to drive, oper...
