Re: The Station Fire Thread

jeebus Alright. I'm going to take a deep breath, and I'm not going to panic or become unsettled. Maybe I'll just take a deep breath. Can't win for losing with this one - can't get the fire out and into the forest until it rains, but can't get into the forest after it rains because the damn roads wi...

Even if he set that smaller fire and had nothing to do with the station fire he should be sent down the effing river. Wandering around our forest thinking about burning it down ...

Re: So.... I guess this pretty much does it for the Fire?

Most areas of the forest got a good soaking, but not everywhere. Wrightwood got less than 1/4" as did a few areas other areas at under an inch. If we get a few wind events, it will dry up pretty good in those areas that got less than an inch or 2. However, as a whole, it's a good start for Oct...

that fire is most likely completely out by tonight. BUT, just watch those Santa Ana's come by next week and start a couple more fires. Aw, thanks a lot. Tonight is a party night, to be sure, and you just ruined it. :) I'd like to think that the moisture dropped on the Angeles by this storm would be...

So.... I guess this pretty much does it for the Fire?

I know it was still smoldering as of yesterday in some areas. If its really raining harder in the mountains than it is in Glendale I can't imagine anything smoldering any more.

Anyone know anything yet?

For anyone who is interested there was no new detections overnight and all the previous detections have faded to black. Always interested. Your maps kept me somewhat sane during the peak of the station fire. Not that they were all great news or anything, but just having information helps. In short,...

Layne - couldn't get near Buckhorn, but I hiked up from South Fork almost to Islip saddle, and it looks green, beautiful, with dark blue skies, fresh air and lots of life. I am sure Buckhorn is the same!! I expected to see ash on the leaves, but there was none. It was really good to see. Again, you...

Next: The official Fire Closure area begins AT Islip Saddle, so you're not supposed to go any further west than that on road or trail. So no, Buckhorn is not accessible at all right now even though part of the closure boundary straddles Hwy 2. There was slopover from the fire near Cloudburst Summit...

Couldn't get an answer about boundaries/open highways/trails from Mike McIntyre. Asked him about Buckhorn specifically, but he said it won't be accessible from the highway until November - right when they close it. I asked about getting there from Wrightwood which I'm not sure he was clear on. In an...

Can anyone tell if highway two to Buckhorn is open? (heading west from Wrightwood) Looks like they left a little pocket above highway 2 and east of Cloudburst open.

Re: The Station Fire Thread

after a large fire like this, small areas in the interior of the fire perimeter will often smolder for sometimes a few months, and occasionally, light up a tree or bush. I saw some smoke too for about 20 min near Chilao, but then it was gone. Usually nothing major to worry about if its well away fr...

The one remaining spot is burning so deep in the wilderness that ground crews cannot reach it.

Not that it means much - "official" containment didn't mean the fire was out. But it sure would've felt good.

Does this mean they had trouble tonight? Flare-ups? Or are they simply just not finished yet with the physical lines?
