Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Re: new kids on the block
Scottawr:
Great trip report, I'm a new dad, so this is inspiring.
I got a few questions:
How old was your son when you began taking him hiking at altitude?
How do you like the osprey carrier? I love osprey packs, I'm sure this one is great, what do you think?
Any other hiking with kids advice?

Re: Sunset and moonrise
Great pictures, thanks for sharing. "Why does it look so big when it's low on the horizon?" Has to do with the angle at which we view it and how the atmosphere at that angle can magnify it.. I think. But check out Lynch and Livingston's "Color and Light in Nature" (ISBN-13: 978-0...

I have never seen that before!
Just made my day, thanks!!!
I'm gonna have to think on the grouse theory for a minute. Are there grouse (greese?) in the San gabs?

Re: Wooshing/Thump audible from Buckhorn
I was exploring the Ridge between Waterman and Kratka last Wednesday (6/20) morning and heard a similar sound. Almost subsonic, I could barely hear the "whumps" but could almost "feel" them instead. Definetly not at waterman, it seemed far away. I've heard these "whumps"...

Re: It is Official: Mt Baldy Road Closed
Just heard that the road is open all the way up. :D We were high on the Bear Canyon trail when they opened the road. We could see the line of cars starting up the Wanker Flat road. What a mess! Was that on Sunday? This morning, Monday 12/27 the Forest Service was turning people around at the fire s...

Re: Speaking of mt. bikes & hiking trails
For years responsible freeriders/downhillers have tried to find ways to build appropriate trails or initiate bike parks, but they (we) are always stopped by EIRs, insurance, or just ignorance (from riders and the public). Big bear killed DH riding due to the above reasons. We're still waiting for Ba...

Re: Aetherius Society on Baldy 7-30-10
i gotta admit i always feel energized and at peace on Baldy. but then again, i feel that way on any mountain i climb. :) Agreed- My students ask me if I go to church and my reponse is "yes, whenever I'm in the mountains among the trees, I am at church." Tough concept for a 7th grader to g...
