news reported that on sunday 9 am police received a report of a hiker who went over the edge on the ridge on baden powell.

thats a drop off, on the eastern side, of several thousand feet.

Re: Vincent Gap Trail (Mt. Baden-Powell)
news reported yesterday that after the recent snow, ( sun, monday and today), that an adult hiker went over the edge on baden powell ridge sunday morning.
no news yet, search -rescue is ongoing. no sign of PCT hiker.
I would suggest crampons and ice axe this week end, just to be safe.

Check out the blog discussion at the link. The answers and question posed to the delorme design staff are extensive. the extra services cost extra. but a cool thing is that the gps has a mesh 802XXX network, so you can send and receive messages, share maps send coordinates between users up to a mile ...

new Delorme GPS with wireless spot meesenger module
I saw this blog and was impressed. Delorme is offering a new GPS pn-60w that has a mate spot messenger module. but here is the cool part. you can use the keyboard buttons of the Delorme to type in custom text and send it to anyone you want. so instead of just having two preset messages, you can ente...

Re: spot 2 possible deffect
yup you are correct.
the spot 2 messengers have been recalled because of battery problems.
they are issuing return info.
go to spot.com and follow voluntary return procedures to get spot replaced. do not use it.

I recently ordered a spot 2 messenger, to replace my old spot. and when it arrived, I installed the batteries and it was DOA. My point here was that we are the ones who confirmed the official boundary lines of juniper hills, that were accepted by Los Angeles county planning commision, and the Los Angeles County govt. as the actual boundary lines of the town of juniper hills. so when discussing this point, the boundary line...

I have to admit , I got a little emotional on his thread. should have been more laid back, just gets frustrating when someone try's to tell me they think they know my actual (literally) back yard, when they live on the other side of the mountains, 50 miles away, quoting office files. One of my issue...

If profit is the motive, maybe the camp should be taken away from the church. It would be interesting for some organization to bid on taking over the camp from the church, and run by someone who is willing to MAKE A PROFIT. I'm afraid I have less then a little respect for the churchy organizations t...

I'm here in juniper hills and I see them and hear the packs every evening, and in the early mornings.
